Hello Supporter, from your new Bonner County Democratic Central Committee Chair!

In case you missed Sylvia's previous email: last Thursday night, we had an election, and I am honored to say I was elected as the new Chairperson for the Bonner County Central Democratic Committee.

First, I’d like to acknowledge the work that has taken place that has gotten us to where we are today.

Six years ago, my mother Lee Christensen and I went to our first Dem meeting held in Maggie Mjede’s living room. Ken Meyers agreed to Chair for 2 years, and his work -- along with many others’ -- strengthened the structure and grew our volunteer base. In 2016, a fired up Sylvia Humes announced that she was going to help us fight to keep the US Presidency in Democratic hands.

Her leadership helped us to win two Mayoral races, a permanent school levy, and helped Idaho pass Medicaid Expansion. These are all huge accomplishments during very dark times.

Sylvia’s persistence brought us holiday dinners, summer parties, social fundraisers and the fantastic participation in the 4th of July parade. Sylvia and Bonnie McDade, outgoing Vice Chair and Communications Director, worked together to transition us to a professional email system and website. Bonnie led the team effort that developed our updated Guiding Principles, and she created a campaign template for our candidates.

Now, we welcome new members to our steering committee. Thank you Rachel Castor, Lisa Barth, Gail Bryan, and Theresa Renner for agreeing to join this team, and thank you to Jennifer Brandenberger and Jack Peterson for continuing to serve!

We all have one common goal: work towards maintaining and improving the well-being and sustainability of our community. Sounds simple, but in fact, it will require an enormous amount of creativity, teamwork, and focus.

My vision includes:
  1. Continuing to open up the Democratic party to everyone with Democratic shared values
  2. Continuing to strengthen the brand of the Bonner County Democrats
  3. Continuing to support qualified leaders in all local, statewide, and national elections
To me, being a Democrat means that I care about people. I want everyone to have quality and affordable healthcare, a way to make a living, an affordable home, access to affordable public education, clean air and water, and for all of us  to feel safe in our community. I believe Democrats should lead the way on these issues, as well as on climate change action; social, racial and economic justice causes; and community charity work. I will work hard to empower community participation in all aspects of the well-being of our community.

Thank you for trusting me with this position, but know that I can not do this alone. Please consider volunteering for the many opportunities coming up to help us win the Pend Oreille Hospital District Board election , East Bonner County Library Board election, and the West Bonner County School District school levy re-run election.

I love serving my community in this way. I hope that you will join me in whatever way that you can.

Sincerely,

Linda Larson, Chair

Bonner County Democratic Central Committee
