Hop on the PARTY LINE PROGRAM!
Josie Lambert said, "I just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed meeting three new friends through this Party Line. I'd say we hit it off and when this is all over, we'll meet for a coffee!  Looking forward to meeting someone new next week!
Register anytime! It's not too late!

WHY?  Would you like to make someone’s day and maybe your own?  Many of our volunteers have expressed that they miss the feel-good moments that serving others induces.  Others have shared just how lonely and long the days can be.  This can be especially true for people who aren’t computer savvy.  If you know people who aren’t receiving our eblast or following us on Facebook, but would like to participate, please advise Blair, so that she can call them to register.

WHAT?  We are introducing a new program, “PARTY LINE” that’s telephone based and will be managed by Blair.  If you register for the program by emailing Blair at blair.askennonia@gmail.com with your name & phone number, Blair will match you up with another member who has registered. (You can also reply to this email and Judy will forward your registration to Blair,)   Blair will provide you with the name and number of this week’s partner.  You each call the other once during the week.

WHEN?  Starting January 26, on Tuesdays, member ‘A’ will call member ‘B’, when you can introduce yourselves to each other and chat as little or as long as you are both comfortable with.  Then on Friday, member B calls member A and you can either just chat or you can come up with a topic if you like.  Perhaps a childhood story, places you have travelled or a favorite recipe.  The next week (or twice per month depending on numbers) you will get a new name and number from Blair and we do it all again.  If you would like to stay connected with your previous phone buddy, that’s fine so long as you fulfill your commitment to call a new buddy.  The commitment you make is to call your Party Line partner on the agreed upon day!

WHO?  All Askennonia members who enjoy meeting new people, like talking on the phone, have a desire to brighten the lives of others while enhancing their own well-being are invited to register with Blair and give this program a try.  Initially, we are restricting registration to our members.

This pandemic has underscored just how important social connections and engagement are to all of us.  We know that having something to look forward to, helping others feel better and sharing stories and experiences enhances all our lives.

Tai Chi with Hans on the beach in the Baja!

Hans Held is an Askennonia Tai Chi member who has wintered in the Baja.  He teaches the 24 movement set of Tai Chi on the beach!  Hans has supplied us with a copy of the set, that may be a little easier for folks not familiar with Tai Chi.  It's a gentle exercise that apparently engages every muscle group without impact.  If you are physically able to try it, it's relaxing, grounding will make you feel good!

WYE MARSH IS OPEN TO VISITORS
But please limit visits to weekdays

The Wye Marsh has opened its trails to walkers, skiers, and snow-shoers (no rentals) provided visitors follow their Covid-19 policies (available on our Facebook) and Askennonia members are welcome to use our amazing memberships on WEEKDAYS. Due to increased congestion on the trails and in the parking lot on weekends, Wye Marsh has asked that we utilize our memberships outside of those times.  They are experiencing a high volume of visitors and to improve your experience and safety, have requested that for the time being, we avoid the busiest times.  Thanks for your cooperation.
We have not resumed our biweekly group walks with Blair, because we don't want to promote any group programs yet, due to the uncertainty around the Covid variants.   Watch here for updates.
Of course, Askennonia members can visit the marsh on their own or with others in your bubble.  Just show your Askennonia membership card at the reception desk.

NEW MEMBER REGISTRATIONS ACCEPTED VIA MAIL AND CHEQUE.

2021 Renewals will only be accepted after we open in the Rec Centre.  Please wait.  Your current membership is valid until that time.  Please don't send renewals for 2021 at this time.

The Board of Directors has decided to extend the membership of all existing 2020 paid up members until the Centre is able to safely open.  This will be sometime after the new year.  At that time the Board will determine the renewal price.

We have had many enquiries from people wanting to join as new members.  New memberships paid now will cover 2020 and all of 2021.  People are interested in the virtual, outdoor and Wye Marsh programs.  The cost will be $50.

At this point, the only way we can safely accept payment is by cheque via mail.  If you print off the registration form above or access it on our website and mail it to us, we will register you, make your membership card and mail it back to you.  You need the card to show at Wye Marsh and any other opportunities we are able to line up for you.

We would appreciate if existing 2020 members wait until we reopen or have an online solution to renew.  We'll provide updates as soon as they become available.
