The advent of Spring has really brought sunshine and warm temps! 

 

There are a number of climate-related events and programs coming up in the next few weeks

First, this webinar being held Thursday evening caught our attention:
Towards Climate Justice: Centering Wabanaki Tribal Nations in Adaption to Climate Change sponsored by A Climate to Thrive (ACTT)

From ACTT:  Dr. Darren Ranco, Professor at UMaine and a citizen of the Penobscot Nation will discuss the ways in Wabanaki Tribal Nations are taking leadership in climate justice and climate adaptation efforts across our region. Placing this work in the context colonization, Dr. Ranco will detail the current and coming climate change impacts to Wabanaki Tribal cultures and how centering Wabanaki Tribal perspectives creates just possibilities related to climate action and adaptation.
Interested in efforts to measure snowmelt and leaf out? Check out this new video (3 mins) showcasing Dr. Alix Contosta of the INSPIRES research team describing the data collecting equipment she has set up in the UMaine's Demerritt Forest. To learn more about the mulit-institutional effort to better assess, understand and forecast complex forest landscape changes, visit INSPIRES: Smart Data for Resilient Forests. INSPIRES is a core program of the New England Sustainability Consortium (NEST).
 

The FCCI-FSG webinar series on Addressing Forest Climate Change in Maine continues on April 7 featuring a panel presentation and interactive Q&A with attendees on how to visualize forest composition and health using colors in the electromagnetic spectrum. On May 5, Dr. Ivan Fernandez will lead a discussion on converging policy and practice (carbon, climate, new directions), For more information on the series and to register, visit the FCCI Science and Practice webpage.
