Training Papuan Indonesians in America!

If you heard our live presentation at church, you may remember that there are Papuan students soon to arrive in Spokane, WA for pilot school at Moody Aviation. It was exciting for us to have just met them this week in Oregon! Since we spent our spring break with Zehr family in Jefferson, OR, we stopped by Corban University in Salem where Erik, Tegi, and Emma are in an orientation program before moving to Spokane. We're so thankful God designed a creative way to keep us connected to Indonesia and Courtney is really looking forward to giving them flight training at Moody Aviation. There are also several more students in Indonesia waiting on student visa process to come study at Moody! Besides Courtney's being able to serve as a flight instructor, we are looking forward to helping these international students with life in Spokane.

Grateful for Sharing Reports in Support of Bible Translation Projects

Though we're more of the "behind the scenes" type of people, we have been sharing in front of church congregations the last couple months as we are currently asking God to call out more prayer and financial partners to join our partnership team. Since costs in the US are significantly higher than in Indonesia, Wycliffe has established a higher ministry budget for us. So far we have reached about a quarter of the required monthly increase. When we have a large enough team to fully fund our ministry, Wycliffe will release Courtney to begin his assignment with Moody Aviation. Wycliffe is a faith-based missions organization and so our family relies on financial partners from individuals and churches giving to Wycliffe preferenced for our ministry to enable us to serve.

We invite you to consider whether God would have you to share in partnership with us and Wycliffe by prayers or finances. If you have a church or group that we could share our ministry with, please let us know.  (links for partnering are at the bottom)

Zehr Kids and Their Transition

People often ask how our kids are doing in this big transition. We're glad to say that it's going well. Of course, they miss Papua and their friends and their pets. They are going to feel that for a long time, but there's peace and they seem steady. They've faced many new things with a readiness to go forward. Thanks for those of you praying for them!

While we homeschooled in the transition of moving, each of them decided to attend the local public school in Cheney, WA. Our kids attended in person two days a week since February but all grades will be back to school in person full time starting mid April. Anne is taking photography class. Adelaide was elected as secretary for ASB and David is enjoying being at school in person and enjoys the socializing.

What our kids miss from Papua - Friends, teachers, pets, Indonesian grown rice (there's no rice here that tastes quite the same), heavy rains, jungle mountain views, the sandy beaches and swimming, yummy tropical fruits

What our kids say is different in the USA - public places are clean and no litter strewn, the landscape, we are not stared at while in public and are not given excessive attention, the driving is different in Indonesia with its loose rules of the road. Because of that and the small city we were in, we usually drove with the flow of traffic at 25 mph to 40 mph. During our first weeks in the US, the kids said it felt uneasy to be driving so fast on freeways.

What they're enjoying in the states -  Family, craft time with Aunt Mitzi and Grammy Cheryl, new pets, grandpa's 4 wheeler, whole milk, ham and cheese sandwiches, grapes and strawberries, and a few occasions of learning how to fly with dad.

Praise God for:

  • For the opportunities we’ve had for sharing about our work in Indonesia and Courtney's new assignment instructing future missionary pilots. We are grateful to have visited Covenant Church, Patriot Church Spokane, and Zion Spokane.
  • We are hosting a home group with our newly planted church and it’s been awesome to be with others who also are inspired to pray for our supported missionaries and local ministries, for our city and our nation.
  • Courtney organized a mission's program for our new church to encourage congregation involvement and to support the pastor in planning a budget.
  • Spring Break spent with family in Jefferson, Oregon.

Pray For:

  • The continued adjustment our kids are making here in the states.
  • For additional prayerful and financial partners to join our sending team and fully fund our Wycliffe ministry by August 2021.
  • That we would be a blessing and encouragement to the Papuan students.

Thank you for all of your prayers and financial that are enabling us to serve!
