Junior Club Championships

Dear juniors (and parents), 

Like most other sports, orienteering competitions can restart on March 29^th. While it will still be some time before we see big events, small events will start happening over the next few weeks. The first of these in the local calendar is the postponed 2020 Norfolk junior championships, which will take place at Redmayne playing fields on Sunday 11^th April, between 10AM - 12:00. This is just inside the NDR, next door to Norwich Rugby Club.

If anyone in your family would like to take part, please email Glen by the end of this week to book your place. 

The competition is open to anyone born in 2002 or later. The nature of the terrain means it is suitable for beginners, while experienced orienteerers will have to run fast to claim the title. There will be trophies for the fastest boy and girl in each of each the following age-groups (using 2020 age-groups) 

Under 18 (born 2002 or 2003) 

Under 16 (born 2004 or 2005) 

Under 14 (born 2006 or 2007) 

Under 12 (born 2008 or 2009) 

Under 10 (born 2010 or later) 

There is also the chance to win the Ella Gilbert Trophy, which goes to the overall champion, worked out using an age-handicap system.  

Courses will be all be 3km or less, and everyone will get the chance to run at least 2 courses. We will be using SI kit. 

Entry is free, but you must email Glen in advance to book your place.  

I should also take this opportunity to give you advance warning that (for only the second time ever) NOR have qualified for the final of the national junior competition (the YBT) which takes place near Bristol on Sunday 4^th July. We’ll most likely make an overnight trip down there and will be looking for volunteers to be part of this team, girls and boys born in 2003 or later. We are making arrangements for some junior training sessions in the coming months to prepare for this. More information in due course.
