Help Protect Our Waterways
Improper disposal of household hazardous waste can potentially contaminate local waterways and affect our water supply.

On April 24 from 8 am until 11:30 am (or until capacity is met), Jefferson County residents may drop off ammunition, appliances, batteries, electronics, household cooking grease, paint, paper shredding, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, prescription medications, and tires for disposal.

Collection sites include First Baptist Church Gardendale (South Location), Classic Car Motoring in Irondale, and City of Bessemer Public Works Laydown Yard.

Fix a Leak Week 2021 Recap
Every year during Fix a Leak Week, Birmingham Water Works encourages customers to look for and fix leaks in their homes and on their property in order to save wasted water. Replacing worn toilet flappers and fixing dripping faucets, and other repairs can translate to savings of about 10 percent on customers’ water bills.

Customers who visited the BWW Payment Center during the week of March 15-19 received a free toilet flapper replacement kit and quick tips card (while supplies lasted). Throughout Fix a Leak Week, Birmingham Water Works published additional tips on Facebook and Twitter and appeared on WBRC Fox 6 and WVTM NBC-13 to spread the word to the community.
How to Fix Common Household Leaks
Conserving your water usage not only helps you reduce your monthly water bill but also helps the environment, as the Earth’s supply of clean drinking water is finite.
