Launch of the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy

CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC have announced the launch of the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy (the Tri-Agency RDM Policy). Details about the policy and associated requirements for institutions and researchers are now available online, along with links to resources.

The agencies plan to implement the policy incrementally, as determined through ongoing engagement with the research community and other stakeholders, and in step with the continuing development of research data practices and capacity in Canada and internationally.

  • Institutional strategies: By March 1, 2023, research institutions subject to this requirement must post their RDM strategies and notify the agencies when they have been completed.
  • Data management plans: By spring 2022, the agencies will identify the initial set of funding opportunities subject to the DMP requirement. The agencies will pilot the DMP requirement in targeted funding opportunities before this date.
  • Data deposit: After reviewing the institutional strategies and in line with the readiness of the Canadian research community, the agencies will phase in the deposit requirement.
Western Research will keep the community apprised as further communications come out.

Western Medical Innovation Fellows perfect their pitch

Adding to a growing list of business competition wins (see: 1 and 2) the Western Medical Innovation Fellows scored another in the Stu Clark New Venture Championships: Graduate Edition. The team took first place in the elevator pitch portion of the annual competition hosted by the Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Manitoba.

The fellows credit the MIF program for developing their business planning and presentation skills by knowing what information to convey to investors. Additionally, fellows have learned how to communicate a solid understanding of value proposition, business model, market opportunity, competitive advantages, funding needs, and the desired milestones for their project.

Knowledge Exchange School Expanded Workshop

Interested faculty and staff are welcome to join this interactive, hands-on workshop to learn how to use both InCites and Web of Science to find information to describe their scholarly research impact to enhance grant applications, promotion and tenure applications, award nominations and more.

The workshop will cover traditional bibliometrics (h-index, total number of publications, total number of citations) and enhanced indicators including geographical spread, number of research areas citing work, citation performance and more.
