President’s Letter
Welcome 2021!

Hello!
The year is off to a very busy start for most of us, so I will try to be quick – but I have a lot of exciting information to share this month.
Who is tired of Zoom calls and webinars?
I have to admit, I am! While they definitely have some advantages, and I would hate to see them completely go, I am ready to get back to figuring out a way to see people safely in person.  Here at the City of Port St. Lucie, the MIDFLORIDA Event Center has figured it out. The event center safely hosted 329 total event days in 2020, with more than 97,000 attendees and a nearly 5-star customer service rating – and no ‘super-spreader’ events! Event Center Director Linda McCarthy will join us on March 25 at 9 a.m. for our next ZOOM meeting to talk about how the center has accomplished this. Melissa Yunas and I also will share how the City’s Communications Department converted our annual Citizen Summit event into a hybrid virtual and in-person experience that drew record numbers of participants this year. I hope to see you all online on March 25! I would love to hear how you are tackling this same challenge.
Speaking of in-person events, our FPRA Chapter will host its first in-person event in more than a year on April 6 at 9:30 at the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, with our awards reception featuring a nationally renowned keynote speaker. We are super excited to see everyone in person for our Image Awards and Communicator of the Year reception. But this is not simply an awards event! Those who attend will participate in a fun, interactive session with media coach, TV host, Inspirational/TEDx speaker and author Dave Aizer. Dave will be speaking about the essentials of dynamic communication, geared towards public speaking in all its forms (speeches, panels, zoom calls, TV appearances, social media, etc.). He will focus on “The Three P’s = Preparation, Poise and Performance.”

After the session, take advantage of our setting and stroll through the beautiful Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens. We are trying our hardest to make this event as safe as possible and are planning on holding the session and brunch in the beautiful outdoors, if the weather cooperates. Congratulations to our excellent Communicator of the Year nominees, who are listed later in this newsletter.
One more quick update: Our past-president Jenny Tomes has been busy for more than a year working on the chapter’s 30th anniversary service project. The chapter has sold T-shirts to pay for a mini artificial reef to be sunk in the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. We have now raised enough funds, and Jenny is starting the process to install the reef. The chapter’s board has agreed to dedicate this project to founding member and PR-superstar Adrienne Moore, who passed away last year. Please stay tuned in the coming months for details about the dedication ceremony. If Adrienne inspired you or touched your life, we would love to see you there.

Have a wonderful month,
Sarah
