Calais Community Easter Egg Hunt & Easter Bunny Tour

Downtown Calais - Calais, ME April 3  Egg Hunt April 3  9:00 - 1:00 Easter Bunny Tour  3:00  - 4:30 pm   Local community members and businesses will have easter egg treats for kids on April 3rd! Social distancing and mask wearing will be required. The Easter Bunny will be bouncing around town as well! The hunt will start at 9am, and run until all of the eggs are gone! Any K In Any Way - Grand Manan, NB

at Grand Manan - Grand Manan, NB April 10   9:00 - 5:00 pm   You choose your distance - you choose your method. Our goal is to have an organized 1k and 5k in the Grand Harbour area, an organized Boardwalk or Long Pond/Big Pond hike, and a kayak event somewhere.  All events will be held on Saturday April 10 if possible, and you choose which one you would like to participate in. This will take volunteers of course, and covid approval. This event is by donation (minimum $20) So feel free to gather sponsors and/or donations, or just pay the $20 to enter. Everyone gets a medal. Tides Institute & Museum of Art

Maine Bicentennial Book

As part of Maine’s Bicentennial, the Tides Institute & Museum of Art mounted an exhibition of works from its collections ranging in date from 1820 to the present. In addition, the Tides Institute will publish a Bicentennial book featuring 100 works from its collections and the stories behind the works and how they came into the Tides Institute’s collection. Each week, one of the selected works will be featured in CulturePass. 

This week’s piece is a bronze cast sculpture head titled “Carlos” by artist Helena Simkhovitch. The sculpture dates to the 1950s. The Tides Institute raised the necessary funds to secure the sculpture at auction in Illinois. It is part of a collection of eight works of sculpture by Simkhovitch in the collections of the Tides Institute. Simkhovitch was born in New York City in 1903, and from 1940 on she lived and worked in New York City and Maine. Her works have been exhibited in Paris, the American Federation of Arts, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors, the Sculptors Guild, Newark Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Maine and St. Stephen, New Brunswick.
