The influence of Academia on economic policy making is enormous and yet the statistics around black economists in this field are either non-existent or dire. Help us to understand your thoughts and experiences by filling out this survey so we can share the findings and tailor the event.

Jobs & Opportunities

I. Opportunities

Economic Analyst at the Bank of England

Location: London, UK

The Bank of England’s Current Economic Conditions Division (CECD) is looking to recruit an economic analyst to its team.
Since the advent of the pandemic, CECD’s analysis has drawn on an array of new 'faster' indicators of economic activity and prices, as well as the more traditional business and consumer surveys and official data. We maintain and develop state-of-the-art econometric models, to take stock of the current position, to produce forecasts for the next few months and to identify underlying economic shocks. Our analysis is ultimately judgement-based, however, and we strive to be compelling and convincing as well as accurate
All of our analysts are expected to contribute to the development of our holistic assessment of the economy. Analysts in the division rotate across the full set of our responsibilities. That means that the jobholder can expect to gain experience of the full range of UK macroeconomic indicators, from GDP to labour markets and inflation, get involved in analytical projects and gain considerable experience using the division’s toolkit for short-term forecasting.

For any further questions and tips on the application process contact TBEN Committee Member  Joseph Oyegoke: Joseph.Oyegoke@bankofengland.co.uk

CMA Economics Intern
6 month Internship

Location: London, Canary Wharf or Edinburgh, One Lochrin Square

The Competition and Markets Authority has a number of exciting opportunities for enthusiastic economics graduates and students who are keen to develop their knowledge, technical skills and experience within a diverse, inclusive organisation dedicated to promoting competition for the benefit of consumers.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK's primary competition and consumer authority, making markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses, and the economy. What we do makes a difference to people’s lives.

Economics is at the heart of the CMA’s work. From taking enforcement action against pharmacies and other businesses accused of imposing unfair prices and cancellation rights arising from the pandemic, investigating concerns over fake and misleading online reviews on certain websites, undertaking a major study into the digital advertising industry or assessing the merger between two large footwear and sport clothing retailers that may have led to higher prices for shoppers, the work of our economists really matters and makes a difference to people’s everyday lives.
