24 March   Encouragement

WHY YOU SHOULD READ YOUR BIBLE
‘The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God.’   2 Timothy 3:16 TLB
Paul wrote to Timothy: ‘The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realise what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right.  It is God’s way of making us well prepared at every point, fully equipped to do good to everyone’ (2 Timothy 3:16-17 TLB)
Here’s why you should read your Bible: (1) So you won’t be led astray.  God will never say something to you through another person, or your own thoughts, that does not line up with what he’s clearly revealed in his Word.  That’s why you need to know the scriptures.  (2) To know you’re truly saved.  The apostle John writes: ‘These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know…you have eternal life, and…continue to believe in the name of the Son of God’ (1 John 5:13 NKJV).  (3) To identify your calling and equip you.  Paul says the Word is, ‘God’s way of making us well prepared at every point, fully equipped to do good to everyone’ (2 Timothy 3:17 TLB).
The Bible is your guidebook for living the Christian life, so read it every day!

Puzzle

Good morning,

As you got up I watched and hoped you would talk to me. Just a few words, such as thanking me for something good in your life yesterday or last week would do.
But I noticed you were busy selecting the right clothes for work. I waited again to hear from you. When you ran around the house collecting papers, I knew there would be a few minutes to stop and say hello, but you never slowed down.
I wanted to tell you that I could help you accomplish more than you ever dreamed possible if you would just spend some of each day with me. At one point, you waited fifteen minutes in a chair with nothing to do. I waited to hear from you.
Then I saw you spring to your feet; I thought you wanted to talk to me, but you ran to the phone and called a friend. I watched as off to work you went and waited patiently all day long to hear from you. With all your activities you were too busy to talk with me.
I noticed at lunch you looked around; maybe you just felt embarrassed to talk to me. You glanced three tables over and noticed some of your friends talking to me before they ate, but you wouldn't.
There was still more time left, and I hoped that we would talk. You went home and had many things to do. After they were done, you turned on the TV; just about anything goes there and you spend many hours watching. I waited as you continued watching TV and ate your meal but again you wouldn't talk to me.
At bedtime you were totally tired. After you said good night to your family you plopped into bed and fell asleep. I had so much wanted to be part of your day. We could have had so much fun and accomplished so much together.
I love you so much that I wait every day for a thought, prayer or thanks. Well, maybe tomorrow! I'll be waiting.
Your Friend,
God

Postage
There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country. "Is there anything breakable in here?" asked the postal clerk. "Only the Ten Commandments." answered the lady.

One Year on

It is one year since we went quickly in to lockdown 3 and then to 4 in response to the Covid 19 Pandemic.  Can you remember back to your feelings and thoughts then. it was a bewildering time as everything was changing and new. We had very little to reference it againist as most of us had not experienced anything like it before. Looking back now ask yourself what did you learn from the experience? How did you see the hand of God at work in your space. Where were you an agent of God to someone else? Also thank God we lived in a country that was able to afford the measures that were taken. Continue to pray for the people living in other areas who have faced a greater challenge and loss of life.

The Facebook Method
Presently, I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles. Therefore, every day I go down on the street and tell the passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel, what I have done the night before and what I will do tomorrow night. Then I give them pictures of my family, my dog and me gardening and spending time in my pool. I also listen to their conversations and I tell them I love them.

And it works!

I already have 3 persons following me: 2 police officers and a psychiatrist.

prayer to finish with

Dear God,
Be with us as we think about all that has changed this year,
And help us to trust that you are always with us.
Be close to us as we remember those who have died,
And help us to trust they are at peace with you.
Show us how to reach out to others with kindness and care,
So that hope shines out in every heart and home,
Amen.
