Perks and pups of Birmingham

Who's the goodest girl?

It's Wednesday, March 24th
🏖Sheila here, brushing the sand off from the beaches of South Florida to check in with my Bham peeps. I'm happy to report most are wearing their masks in the Sunshine State and are welcoming the spring break dollars from points north. Just don't get in their way on I-75 unless you're willing to drive 95! 🏎💨

Grounds for thought
Revelator Coffee is roasting the national competition. This Birmingham original percolates up to spot #12 of the 15 most popular coffee roasters and coffee shops in the country. You could say they're known near and far to Far & Wide

Cows and chickens
No more horsey-saucing around–the city of Chelsea is spreading its (chicken) wings to make way for side-by-side Arby's and Buffalo Wild Wings along Highway 280. Expect 125 new jobs and gallons of dipping sauces too numerous to count.

Preppin', shleppin' & reppin'
Birmingham chef Roscoe Hall is a chef-testant on upcoming season 18 of Top Chef on Bravo. He knows his way around the BBQ pit, the gardens of Jones Valley Teaching Farm, the kitchens of Bottega and Hot & Hot Fish Club and the pizza ovens of Post Office Pies. I suspect Mr. Hall will be reppin' the Magic City just fine. Season starts April 1, no fooling.

A new development
Lakeview Green will be the cool place to be in this hot part of town when it opens later this summer. The mixed-use development is anything but mixed up. There's a planner 3-5 restaurants and upscale retail shops–maybe even you in one of the 118 residential addresses upstairs.

Will there be enough room? The Hoover Public Library built the first 5 of 15 little lending libraries to expand their reach to children in apartment complexes throughout the city, opening up a new chapter in literacy.

👉This way to normal
There's a change in the air besides all the pine pollen and mayflies. If memory serves, it feels like...hope. Covid vaccines are available to more and more Alabamians–find out if you qualify and sign up for your shot in the arm here.

Easter feasters
If Sundays are meant to be a day of rest, then for heaven's sake let mama out of the kitchen on Easter. There's a bunch of spots in Birmingham catering to Easter dinner for the couple or the crowd. Whatever butters your biscuit.

Bringing home the bakin'
Big Sky Bread Company is doing the shake 'n bake with your local Piggly Wiggly. Now you can find their Birmingham-based cookies and granola at The Pig–where they've been keeping it local since forever. Sponsored by:

Freshen up

Adorable + Adoptable

Gordo is a senior cat at Shelby Humane, just looking for a lap to lay in.

I'm going to tell you where I am without telling you where I am even though I already told you at the top. Pretend I didn't. OK, here we go. Turnpikes. Palm trees. Neon airbrushed apparel. Baby alligators. Windchimes made out of shells. Frozen concoctions that help you hang on. Bye for now, the beach beckons.
