Plus: Krispy Kreme delivers a sweet vaccination incentive.

It’s Thursday.

Do you like donuts? Do you like Krispy Kreme? And more importantly, are you planning to get vaccinated? In case you hadn’t heard, Krispy Kreme is offering people one free glazed donut a day for the rest of the year with proof of vaccination. Hopefully, this isn’t the tipping point for choosing to get the vaccine or not...but if it is then hey, no judgment here, go get that shot and donut.

Now since no one responded to my very declarative statements on Girl Scout Cookies (Thin Mints are the best) and croissants (they just don’t do it for me), I will add my belief that cake donuts are superior to fluffy yeast donuts.

Again my inbox is always open for dialogue on the aforementioned statements.

Anyway, let’s get to the news and throwback Thursday!

What Seattle is talking about

We will stop posting Space Needle pictures when the Space Needle stops looking so cool. 😤 | Tag @the_evergrey or use #theevergrey to be featured in our Instagram of the Day. (📸: @briangorun

From hotel to houseless shelter. On Wednesday, the Executive Hotel Pacific welcomed almost 140 new residents. The historic, 100-year-old building is located downtown and will offer folks food, 24/7 security, and live-in staff from the Low Income Housing Institute. (The Seattle Times)

What’s the big deal with ‘We Heart Seattle’? Mutual aid groups have called on the city council to disavow the group which is volunteer-run and picks up trash from houseless encampments, claiming they’ve illegally removed belongings. We Heart Seattle is a privately funded group and argues that they’ve done none of this. Councilwoman Tammy Morales has stated she does not support WHS’s work while councilmember Andrew Lewis expressed he’d like them to work with the city’s Human Services Department.  (South Seattle Emerald

The year without music. Here’s how one Seattle musician, Caitlin Sherman, navigated the past year. Sherman was one of the unlucky artists to release an album right before the pandemic shut everything down. (KUOW)

Throwback Thursday

Lesbian/Womyn's Yellow Pages, 1979 MOHAI, 2014.40.10

We’re looking back into MOHAI’s archives to highlight some of the artifacts the museum has. Why? Because sometimes it’s good to look back as we move into the future. Plus, MOHAI has a bunch of cool stuff worth sharing. (Editor’s note: I definitely had my 10th birthday party at MOHAI — some may call me a nerd, others know how cool Seattle’s history is.)

Today we’re taking a look at one of the museum’s “Objects of Pride.” This ongoing series asks the community to share personal stories of LGBTQ+ memories. This past Tuesday, they had an online event that was a part of the project, and they’ve got another planned for Saturday, June 12.

Another Seattle ‘Object of Pride’ is the “Lesbian/Womyn’s Yellow Pages,” which was published and edited by Donna Burgess and Patty Mead of the Gay Community Center in Seattle in 1979. The book served as a sort of directory of individuals and companies who provided “moral-free” services in everything from counseling to taverns.

If you have your own object of pride, you can share it with MOHAI by tagging them on social media with a photo of it and a short description of why you chose that particular item.
