In this issue we will be focusing on creativity, what makes us special and our amazing surroundings. Social distancing may still have an impact but this should not take away from the things that will never change in us and around us! Scroll down for details to inspire your classroom, links, dates and other resources are shared below….
Spiritual:  Earth day (22nd April 2021) is a day to celebrate and appreciate everything wonderful about our natural world (click here to learn more). Being outside during the pandemic has given so many of us an opportunity to relax and live in the moment with loved ones and to appreciate the treasures of our wonderful world. Our hearts and minds have been uplifted by listening to birdsong, looking at trees and plants, walking in woodlands and parks, playing in our gardens. As a class why not plan a scavenger hunt in a nearby park or outside area, plant some seeds and watch them grow during the Summer term, or make the most of the summer weather and plan lessons that can be taken outside of the classroom and enjoy being in nature together as a class, find some great ideas here. Or try this lesson on page 37 of this pack.
Moral: We celebrate World Oceans Day (June 8th 2021) to remind ourselves of the hugely important role the seas have in our day-to-day life. They are the lungs for our planet and provide us with most of the oxygen we breathe. It is a day to celebrate the beauty and the promise that our seas hold for us. We always care for things when we know more about them. Why not as a class take the opportunity to learn more about life in our oceans; maybe discover more about sea creatures and what they need to stay happy and healthy in our oceans. Looking after our seas and protecting them from being polluted may be something as a class you could talk about. Could you challenge your class to try and use less plastic at home, so that our seas suffer less plastic pollution? Maybe you could watch an episode or clip from Blue Planet as a class. There are many resources available to celebrate this day by and you can find some by clicking here
Social: National Share a story month 2021 has them of Myths, Magic and Mayhem. Everyone loves a story and in this special month families and schools are encouraged to share stories which will ignite imagination and take those who are listening to worlds of wonder and mystery and magic. In school can you introduce your class to a magical story you enjoyed a as child? Or maybe set up a cosy reading corner in the classroom, and when Lockdown restrictions are lifted organise a trip to your local library. Local bookshops are also joining in the fun and offering online activities for children and families to enjoy. Find some great ideas resources from fcgb.org.uk, the TES and Storytelling Schools.
Cultural: World day for Cultural Diversity (21st May 2021) this special day is an invitation from the UN to celebrate the diversity of people living around us. It’s an opportunity to find out about what all people on earth have in common, rather than think about what separates us. Why not as a class celebrate by making a variety of different foods from different countries, or maybe try to learn a few welcoming words in another language. Perhaps use this day as an opportunity to look at the diverse make up of your class and school community. You may even be able to learn a new dance from another country! There are many resources online, here are 2 for you to try from the TES and from britishcouncil.org.
