God bless all those old California vineyards scattered throughout The Golden State. They harken back to simpler times and keep us (me, anyway) grounded within the soulful beauty of wine. I'd like you to dig into a couple such wines. They are by Post & Vine Winery.

Rebekah Wineburg is the owner, winemaker and mind-behind Post & Vine. She's the winemaker for a  luxury-brand Napa winery by day and a fighting micro-winery owner/operator by night. I admire her for stretching her talents beyond Napa Valley. The wines are very good. I should know. I've tasted, promoted and/or sold every vintage since the inaugural 2012.

The 2017 Post & Vine Old Vine Field Blend is a blend of Zinfandel (34%), Carignane (32%), Petite Sirah (30%) and Grenache (4%) from 65 year old vines in Mendocino’s Redwood Valley. In true field blend method, all four varietals are harvested and fermented together. The old vines give the wine its spicy, earthy soul. Skilled farming and Rebekah's deft winemaking hand explain the layers of fruit and texture. The wine is brambly and brushy with smells & flavors of violet candies, ripe dark plum, raspberry sauce, cinnamon, garden thyme and crushed black peppercorns that are first shy then blossom and rise from the glass with 10-15 minutes of breathing. Medium to full bodied, layered and cohesive with fine tannins and balanced acidity, this tasty-now red blend will get better over the next few years. Projected plateau 2025-2035. Take advantage of the 15% discount on the Post & Vine Old Vine Field Blend. There is no minimum purchase required for the discount. Full review.

Almost as impressive, the Post & Vine Rosé of Carignane 2020 makes my rare "Hall of Fame Value" list with its $18 price tag. Old-vine Carignane is whole cluster pressed after a short soak on the skins. Deep salmon skin color. Peppery watermelon, raspberry, blood orange and herbs de Provence smells and flavors, all neatly packed in a dry, vibrant Rosé that’s equally fruity and spicy. I tasted this just last week and, typical of early-release Rosé wines, will taste even better...significantly better I believe...this summer. With 61 cases made and the $18 price tag, doubtful you can buy it come summertime. Plan ahead.

I don't take payment nor commission from the wineries I promote. Except wine, that is, which is perfect because I only recommend wines I like to drink
