Studying Consumer Trends & Behaviors

Understanding consumer trends and behaviors is an important part of the Beef Checkoff’s strategy when promoting beef and developing messaging around beef production. As consumer perceptions change and buying habits evolve, the Beef Checkoff adjusts the messaging approach through advertising and consumer outreach.

The consumer dashboard survey is a tool used to evaluate consumers’ attitudes toward beef and beef production while outlining areas that would encourage consumers to purchase more beef. The Nebraska state survey was conducted in November of 2020 showing Nebraska beef trends compared to consumers on a national level.

The Nebraska Beef Council Board of Directors will utilize this information during their strategic planning meeting next week as they make considerations for 2021-2022 programs. The Strategic Plan will then be sent to contractors who will be requesting funding for programs.

93% of Nebraskans are eating beef at least monthly compared to 88% nationally. Only 4% of Nebraskans report never eating beef compared to 7% nationally.
Nebraska consumers outpace the national average on their positive perceptions of beef. A large majority of the state's consumers list beef's top attributes as great tasting, a great source of protein, versatile and safe to eat.
Nebraska consumers' desire for more preparation and beef meal ideas will drive the content for advertising messaging in 2021. However, the Nebraska Beef Council will also work to continue to share beef’s environmental and sustainability message to maintain our consumer’s knowledge and trust in beef production.
