Please help the School Site Council support our students by filling out our community survey by Monday (March 22). It should take less than 10 minutes and is focused on gathering and applying lessons learned from this year. Please share the Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese survey links below with anyone you know who may prefer using those languages.
We want to acknowledge that this has been a very unusual and difficult year. We know that moving to distance learning has put an enormous strain on families and on teachers. Many decisions about how and when to move back to in-person learning are outside of our school's control. However, we want to provide an opportunity for clear-eyed assessment of what's gone well and what's gone poorly this year. We also want to get input from our community that will help put us in the best possible position to support our students in successfully transitioning back to in-person learning.
Feel free to reach out to be directly if you have any questions about the survey.
Warm wishes,
Amy (mom of Milo and Baxter Zrob and School Site Council parent rep)

The Presidio PTSA is planning for school year 2021-2022
There are 3 Executive Board positions available that must be filled to retain our local, state and national PTSA status.
The 3 key positions are:
- President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
All 3 positions are being vacated by outgoing 8th grade parents. So WE REALLY NEED YOU! Please volunteer here.
If these 3 positions aren't your cup of tea, there are many other opportunities that might be a better fit, even other positions on the board. So if you like to be in the middle of what's going on at school, volunteer here.
Want to know more about the roles and what they entail? Check out roles & responsibilities here.
The PTSA at Presidio focuses on:
-
Creating a community among families, students, teachers and staff (including our afterschool program, Presidio Community Beacon), where people work together to provide the best environment possible for everyone;
-
Advocating for our children within our school, community and beyond. PTA’s are the largest children's advocacy group in the nation, so every member counts when it comes to affecting local, state & national legislation that impacts our kids;
-
Providing additional learning and enrichment opportunities for our students and staff to make Presidio a place of learning, in and out, of the classroom;
-
Supporting our teachers and staff so they can deliver the best education to our children;
-
Fostering an inclusive community within our diverse school family where everyone feels they belong; we get stronger together when we listen to, and learn from, each other.
All family members are welcome to volunteer. You do not need to be a PTSA member to volunteer, but you will need to join if you become a member of the Executive Board.

I am from the future
One of the products of what generations have made
Born to carry the fate of the future
I am a pursuer
I strive to work hard and to gain
I have hopes and dreams, just like everyone
I am part of the future
Woven into the future generation
Who strive to carry what everyone wants,
A better future
Because everyone works hard
Everyone wants to improve
So the past generation will rely on the future generation
And someday, there will be new problems
The future generation must face
And soon, a new future generation will be called upon
Making the past future generation part of the past generation
To help improve our world to make a better place
But when we sit down and think
And we look in the place we are at
We think of everything we have right now
Given to us from the past
Everything that our past generations have done
Everything our past generations have sacrificed for us
Everytime WE have relied on the past generation
Shows how important the past is
And we sit down and realize
To see all the things
Both the past and the future generation
Have done for the world
And to realize….
The past was from the future
All our contributions
Helps realize that…
WE, are from the future

I Am The Future
In this world I am just a small middle school girl out of many
In this world not everything is fair in life, but it’s forgiving
What we as a nation seek to become, what can we do to rebuild our strength and how?
What people have done to each other in the past dawns on us now
What we have done to make our planet bleed, the things we have done to our planet that we just now concede; what world do we want to live in, and how will we follow ourselves out of this maze?
The world as we know it today, too wounded to look at with one single gaze
Our souls and our hearts have been crushed by the pandemic we are going through
But you and I can take a part in this moment, that is something I must remind you
As there are rich people thriving while many people go through hardship & distress
Let's bring the light out of this settled darkness
Let this generation lead us and the generations to come
Let’s lead ourselves and each other to create a future where nothing can beat us
I am the future, but so are you
So let's come together and create a future of brand new, and remind ourselves of what we can do

Plans for Returning to In-Person Learning
Dept. of Public Health School Guidance Checklist
Want to know more about what’s being done to prepare schools for safe return? See the Facilities section under SFUSD’s Return Safety Together Plan, which also includes this San Francisco DPH School Guidance Checklist and SFUSD COVID-19 Prevention Plan for each school as they receive final approval.
Clarifying Classroom Capacity for In-Person Learning
Public health guidance continues to shift and evolve. SFUSD is following the most recent public health guidance related to physical distancing at schools offering in-person instruction.
- There is no 14-student limit in classrooms. We are setting up classrooms to accommodate a full class provided we can meet physical distancing requirements.
- We will strive to keep student desks at 6 feet, but may have desks no less than 4ft apart from each other with a plexiglass barrier between the students.
- Per the Department of Public Health, schools that were inspected at 6 feet don't need to be re-inspected if they add desks and move to 4 feet.
- Teacher desks are at least 6 feet apart from student desks and tables.
Overview + SFUSD Dashboard
SFUSD is actively preparing to offer in-person learning options at a limited number of schools. The Reopening Schools Readiness Overview page provides background & context. The readiness Dashboard is updated weekly to show the work that is in progress, what has been completed, and what still needs to be done in order for students to return safely to in-person learning.

A free workshop on the dynamic intersections of culture, community, music, and education
What is community-based music work? Miguel Govea is a multi-instrumentalist and a community-based musician with a career that spans 40 years, as well as a CMC faculty member. His session will cover the dynamic intersections between culture, community activism, music creation, and education. He'll share his musical trajectory as the child of Mexican immigrants in 1960’s Central California to his exposure to the SF Bay area music scene in the late 1970’s, with demonstrations of performances, projects, and styles which have been instrumental to his artistic journey, such as Mexican folk traditions and the musical masters from Central and South America and the Caribbean he learned from and played with. Audience members are invited to participate in the session through interacting with the artist in a Q & A.

Inspiring Women Take the Stage During Women's History Month |
|
HERstory, the Library’s celebration of Women’s History Month, features a multitude of events celebrating strength, activism, talent and absolute fierceness.
Honor the Suffragette Movement with a theatrical performance by actor Bonda Lewis portraying Sara Bard Field, who delivered the dedication speech at the unveiling of the Portrait Monument in the United States Capitol on February 15, 1921.
HERstory is an opportunity to hear from diverse voices and provide space for youth and their families to share stories by creating art, learning about different career paths, participating in a book club or speaking directly to authors. Inspiring women abound with two extraordinary programs. Linda Calhoun, founder and executive director of Career Girls, a comprehensive video-based career exploration and readiness tool for girls, facilitates a panel of diverse and accomplished women. Panelists explore how speaking their truth has transformed their lives and include Anya Adams, an award-winning Canadian-American director who is best known for directing Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat and The Good Place; Charmin Roundtree-Baaqee, Oakland native, civil engineer and art curator for the East Bay Municipal Utility District; and Anne Collins Smith, Curator of Collections at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta.
Also bringing full star power to our stage, bestselling author Elizabeth Acevedo is joined by fellow author, organizer and educator Mahogany L. Browne in a necessary conversation about social justice and equality on the heels of Acevedo’s collaboration on Browne’s recent book, Woke: A Young Poet’s Call to Justice.
Others interested in diverse YA literature can meet sister-writer duo, Maika and Maritza Moulite, authors of Dear Haiti, Love Alaine and One of the Good Ones, as they share their perspectives on writing, allyship and the power of sisterhood. The Moulites loved visiting their local library and being inspired by the books they read.
Finally, talented teaching artists, makers and arts educators offer another avenue for youth to share their story. Karen Luk, whose work has been featured at the Cartoon Art Museum and Google, brings an introductory course to drawing and comparing realistic and manga style face art. In addition, Alejandra G. Ramirez, a Salinas and Bay Area artist, presents spot art with a focus on renowned artist Yayoi Kusama and returns to share Dolores Huerta’s influence in the American Labor Movement. Both of Ramirez’s workshops will have projects that use easy-to-find household items.
The Power of Story with Career Girls – March 3, 2 p.m.
Maika & Maritza Moulite – March 9, 2 p.m.
Elizabeth Acevedo and Mahogany L. Browne in partnership with SFUSD – March 10, 2 p.m.
Introduction to Drawing Real vs Manga Faces with Karen Luk – March 15, 4 p.m.
Centennial of the Suffragist Portrait Monument in the U.S. Capitol – March 19, 12 p.m.
Introduction to Spot Art with Alejandra – March 29, 4 p.m.
