COVID-19 Vaccinations Available for Several Priority Groups

COVID-19 vaccine eligibility in Southern Nevada now includes the following priority groups:

  • Health Care Workforce (previously Tier One)
  • Nevadans 70 years and older
  • Nevadans 65-69 years
  • Public Safety and Security
  • Frontline Community Support
  • Frontline Supply Chain and Logistics
  • Food Service and Hospitality

The Southern Nevada Health District is urging people who are eligible, which includes everyone in these groups that is 18 years of age and older (Moderna or Janssen vaccine) or 16 years of age and older (Pfizer vaccine), to register for an appointment to get the vaccine.

In addition to individuals who are currently employed, people in these groups who were furloughed or laid off and are re-entering the workforce or seeking employment are eligible to be vaccinated. People should bring documentation of their current or previous employment.

The Health District’s largest vaccine sites, located at Cashman Center and the Las Vegas Convention Center, are open Tuesday through Saturday and often have same-day appointments available.

“Based on the new, science-based guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we know that people who are fully vaccinated can resume some activities in their own homes, including visiting with other people who are fully vaccinated without wearing masks or staying 6 feet apart,” said Dr. Leguen, District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District.

“As more people are fully vaccinated, the CDC will be able to expand and update their recommendations. Until we see higher vaccination rates in our community, we are encouraging people to continue to take precautions when they are out in public, around people who are not fully vaccinated, or who are at high risk for complications from COVID-19,” said Dr. Leguen.

The full CDC recommendations for people who are fully vaccinated are available on the CDC website. More information about COVID-19 is available on the Health District website at www.SNHD.info/covid.

COVID-19 Testing Still Available

COVID-19 testing is vital to identifying people who are infected so they can isolate themselves from others and interrupt the transmission of the virus. The Health District recommends testing for both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals. Testing is recommended for people who have symptoms of COVID-19; anyone who had close contact with someone who has a confirmed or possible case of COVID-19; people who were in a setting where they were exposed to a large group of people or people who were not wearing face coverings or not maintaining physical distance; and anyone who is planning to visit someone who is at high risk of illness, including people 65 years of age and older and people with serious medical conditions.
