Pikes Peak APEX and Athletic Brewing Company Partner to Grow The Pikes Peak Trail Stewardship Initiative
|
|
On March 17th, 2021, Pikes Peak Apex and Athletic Brewing company announced a partnership that will help build and develop trails for the Pikes Peak region. These trails will benefit the community as well as add trails and access to the annual Pikes Peak Apex mountain bike race. Athletic Brewing has come along side this project as the official non-alcoholic beer sponsor of the 2021 Pikes Peak Apex and has decided to donate $5,000 to the Stewardship Initiative.
“We are so excited about this relationship with Athletic Brewing and our Trail Stewardship Fund,” stated Becky Leinweber, Executive Director of the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance. “Having Athletic Brewing Company invest in the Pikes Peak APEX, as well as support our mission to improve and maintain our trail system for our residents and visitors is a huge win for all of us.”

Update on SWA Pass & Parks Passes
|
|

SWA Passes - *Update*
The Commission passed the measure to create a new annual Colorado SWA (State Wildlife Area) Pass for those who want to access SWAs but don't want a fishing or hunting license. The money from hunting and fishing licenses, coupled with federal funds from excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment, have been used to buy these properties for the benefit of wildlife and wildlife related recreation. SWAs are state-owned land, not public lands in the same terms as federal lands, and they are intended for specific purposes. These unique properties are meant to protect wildlife habitat, provide for breeding & nesting grounds and for hunting, fishing, trapping and wildlife viewing. It is critical for anyone wanting to use these properties to help financially contribute to their conservation and management. It is our obligation as Coloradans to care for the resources that provide for us economically as well as mentally and physically.
The pass will be available on May 1, 2021 by visiting any CPW office or online at cpwshop.com. The pass will be priced similarly to a resident annual fishing license and revenue from the new SWA pass will be used to manage and maintain SWAs.
Colorado State Wildlife Area Pass
annual: $36.08*
1 day: $9
Youth (ages 16-17) annual: $10.07
Senior (ages 65 and older) annual: $10.07
Low-income annual: $10.07
(Fees include a $1.50 Wildlife Education Fund surcharge)
*Plus a fee of $10.40 for a Colorado Wildlife Habitat Stamp
The annual pass is valid from March 1 – March 31 of the following year, also aligning with the 13-month season for fishing licenses in Colorado.
