100,000th PASSENGER OFFERS A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE

Hello <<First Name>>
Singapore yesterday reached an important milestone for cruising, having honoured the 100,000th passenger to set sail under the country’s carefully controlled cruise resumption.

The landmark represents another big step forward for cruising as the industry implements its extensive new health measures worldwide, and helps show what’s possible with strict health protocols in place.
Singapore has been a pioneer in the revival of cruise operations, which resumed in November with Dream Cruises and Royal Caribbean operating domestically within a Singaporean bubble.  Its program has been highly successful and provides a model for other countries as the cruise industry seeks a phased and tightly managed return.

Worldwide, an estimated 350,000 passengers have travelled on more than 400 sailings from several regions, aboard 25 CLIA ocean-going cruise line ships. Countries including Taiwan, Singapore, Norway, Germany, Italy and France have all achieved a cruise resumption, with domestic cruises from the UK due to start in May 2021.

These successful sailings, combined with the growing confidence expressed by governments and experts in health and sciences, are clear indications that a responsible resumption of cruising is possible with extensive health measures in place.

Given the success Australia and New Zealand have had in stemming the transmission of COVID-19, CLIA continues to lobby for a phased and carefully controlled resumption that initially begins with domestic cruises for locals only. With the comprehensive health measures our industry has committed to globally, now is the time to open a pathway towards resumption and the economic opportunities that cruise tourism brings.

Stay safe,

COVID-19 UPDATE

Following representations from CLIA, other industry associations, and the broader travel industry, the Australian Government last week announced a second round of the COVID-19 Consumer Travel Support Program which will provide an additional $130 million to eligible travel agents.

Several adjustments have been made to this second round, including:
  • Payments under Round Two of the program will automatically apply to businesses successful under Round One who reported GST Turnover on the G1 line of their BAS.
  • No additional payments under Round Two will be made to those who it is determined were paid under Total Transaction Value (TTV) in Round One.
  • The number of turnover tiers used to calculate payments will be reduced from 41 to 7, with eligible businesses to receive between $5,000 up to $100,000 per eligible application.
  • Businesses with sales over $500,000 and less than $20 million seeking a Round Two payment will be subject to an audit. This will further ensure only those who were paid on the basis of GST Turnover in Round One are eligible for Round Two.
Further information and updates will be provided on the Austrade website soon including the expected timeline for Round Two.

Information relating to the Round One application process is available on the Services Australia website. Feedback can also be provided through the Services Australia Complaints and Feedback line (1800 132 468).
