Training Tuesdays from the Office of the Child's Representative (OCR) is an email bulletin for OCR attorneys and other child welfare stakeholders detailing upcoming OCR sponsored or approved training, outside training opportunities, new resources, and more! All OCR contractors who are eligible for new OCR case appointments and/or who have any open cases will receive an email from OCR on March 1st with instructions and a link to either a 2021 Attorney Verifications Form or an FY22 Renewal Application. If you did not receive an email with a link to one of the two forms detailed below or if you believe you received the wrong form link, please write to rebeccagarrison@coloradochildrep.org as soon as possible.

School Discipline Representation

Presenter: Elie Zwiebel
Program Description: Is it legal for my client to be expelled when the alleged incident didn’t happen at school? What can I do to fight the expulsion? Does it matter that my client has an IEP? Does it matter that I think my client should have an IEP but doesn’t? What are my timelines? Who can help? If you have had any of these questions or similar ones cycle through your head as your client faced school discipline, you are not alone. This training will provide an overview of the laws that apply to school discipline in Colorado and how to advocate for your young client to ensure they retain the best connection possible to their education. We will also discuss tools and resources available to provide you with back-up or reinforcement(s).

The OCR is excited to partner with Dr. Nita Mosby Tyler of the Equity Project to offer a workshop on deconstructing definitions, exploring the impact of language on systems of equity, and more! Details and registration to come. These workshops will not be recorded.
This is the same workshop that was held on March 12th. OCR contractors and employees are welcome to attend again, even if they attended the March 12th program.
This training will count toward OCR's required DEI training hours, a requirement that starts July 1, 2021.

Save the Date!
This year, OCR will hold a 1-day conference virtually on Friday August 13th. In lieu of a second day, OCR will be collaborating with NACC and ORPC to offer a broad range of child welfare content relevant to GAL practice at the NACC conference. We encourage GALs to attend OCR’s conference day on August 13th, as well as the NACC Conference. More information to come.

NACC 44th Annual Conference
August 14-18, 2021 | OCR Appproved | Virtual
NACC Dual Conference Format:
The onsite conference will be in Denver, Colorado, August 14-15, 2021, with pre-conference sessions August 13, 2021. All onsite programming will be at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. Hotel rooms are available starting at $169/night and can be booked HERE. Onsite conference registration includes the online conference.
The online conference will be August 16-18, 2021 in the comfort of your home or office… maybe the park. If an onsite conference is not possible due to public health concerns, the NACC conference will be entirely online August 16-18, 2021.
The onsite conference content and online conference content will both be live. The goal is to have exclusive content for the each of these conferences. Recordings of the online content will be available for up to a year.
This conference is an OCR-approved training for up to 5 CLEs.
