Landcare Awards 2021
The 2021 Greater Sydney Regional Landcare Awards are open. Nominate yourself, someone else or a team for their outstanding work protecting biodiversity and the environment. Nominations close 29th March 2021.
The winners will be announced at the Greater Sydney Landcare and Bushcare Forum on 21 May 2021. The winners from each category will be nominated up to the NSW Landcare and Local Land Services Awards taking place in Tweed Heads in March 2022.

Cumberland City Council, in conjunction with Landcare and Nelsons Grove Retirement Village, are rehabilitating the area behind the Gates of Greystanes Estate.
Help us beautify the area and join us to ,
- Plant new seedlings and small trees
- Learn about the heritage of the area
- Learn about the importance of trees in our urban environment
- Understand how to create habitat for native animals

WEDNESDAY 24TH MARCH, 2021
Help make Georges River's greenspaces greener!
Where: Peakhurst Park, Trafalgar Street, Peakhurst
Time: 8:00am - 12noon (Wed 24th March)

Greater Sydney Landcare Network and Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society are inviting you to come help plant native trees and understory to green the Georges River area.
Join us for a day of planting tubestock at Peakhurst and Henry Lawson Parks. We will also do some in fill planting in the nearby Trafalgar Reserve. The plantings will help create pockets of shade at our local parks in addition to improving habitat in the landscape.
Please wear long sleeves, long pants, closed sturdy shoes and a hat / sunscreen, and bring at least 2 litres of drinking water.
RSVPS are essential. Due to COVID-19 the number of participants for this event is restricted, so to avoid disappointment register ASAP.
Instructions on parking and exact meeting point will be provided to those who have registered. You will need to arrange your own transportation.

Streamwatch Quality Assurance Workshop

TUESDAY 30TH MARCH
Help revegetate bushland that perished in the Black Summer Fires of 2019...
Where: Allendale, Clarence Road, Blackheath
Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm

Join Greater Sydney Landcare Network and Allendale Landcare Group for a final day of tree planting at Blackheath, Blue Mountains! Whilst the Blue Mountains typically has a higher canopy cover in Greater Sydney, the area had been burnt in the Black Summer Fires in 2019.
GSLN volunteers and Allendale Landcare have been revegetating this area to restore lost habitat for birds, small mammals and microbats, increase the cooling effects of the canopy that has been lost and help to restore hanging swamps found on the property.
Trees were last planted here is November 2020 and some of these are now already taller than their tree guards!
On-site training, tools, and refreshments will be provided.
Please wear long sleeves, long pants, closed sturdy shoes and a hat / sunscreen, and bring at least 2 litres of drinking water. Also, please bring your own gardening gloves for COVID-19 safety considerations.
RSVPS are essential. Due to COVID-19 the number of participants for this event is restricted, so to avoid disappointment register ASAP.
You will need to provide your own transportation to the site.
For insurance purposes you must be accompanied by an adult if you are under 16 years old.

WEDNESDAY 7TH APRIL
Help plant an urban woodland for habitat and healing!
Where: Westmead Hospital, Darcy Road, Westmead

Join Greater Sydney Landcare Network for a day of tree planting at Westmead Hospital!
We're creating an urban woodland on the Hospital grounds for habitat and to provide a restorative environment.
Green spaces aren't just great for urban ecosystems, they're also associated with better physical health, lower stress levels, and greater community satisfaction. Now's your chance to get involved with creating this healing space in your neighbourhood.
About this event:
The plantings, in the Westmead Hospital grounds, are designed with a Parramatta artist from the social enterprise Social Canvas AU and will be revegetated with local woodland species using an adapted Miyawaki planting method. The site's proximity to Toongabbie Creek will help extend important habitat for small birds, microbats, and other native animals.
This event is the first of 3 planting days and will focus on site preparation in addition to planting a line of hickory wattle to cool the Darcy Street footpath.
Please wear long sleeves, long pants, closed sturdy shoes and a hat / sunscreen, and bring at least 2 litres of drinking water. Also, please bring your own gardening gloves for COVID-19 safety considerations.

Coastcare & Rock platform tour - Sat 10th April!
Are you a young person that loves getting outside? Want to get your hands dirty caring for local bushland? Greater Sydney Landcare Network and Northern Beaches Council Bushcare are heading to the beach!
For this April event we’ll be heading to the Northern Beaches to take out invasive weeds that are threatening our coastal ecosystems. In the afternoon you’ll be guided along a rock platform at low tide to enjoy ocean views and check out what marine life is living in the pools.
So, if you've always been keen to make a difference but weren’t sure where to start, or just want to have a chill day and meet some like-minded peeps, now’s your chance to get involved.
On-site training, PPE, lunch, and morning tea are provided.
Please wear long sleeves, long pants, closed sturdy shoes and a hat / sunscreen, and bring at least 2 litres of drinking water. Feel free to bring your bathers and a towel if you’re keen for a swim in the afternoon.

While this event is primarily to support and encourage young people aged late teens to thirty-something years old, we always invite diversity of demographics. However, for insurance purposes you must be over 13 years old and accompanied by an adult if you are under 16.
Please be advised you will need a reasonable level of fitness to attend this project. Some rock platform areas are slippery and unstable under foot.

Landcare & Bushcare Forum
Climate, culture, conservation - learning from the past, adapting for the future...
Greater Sydney Local Land Services is hosting a free forum and awards event for environmental volunteers.
The theme for this year's forum is 'Climate, culture, conservation - learning from the past, adapting for the future'.
The forum will take place on Cockatoo Island at the Mould Loft. The day will include an optional self-guided walking tour of the island in the afternoon.

- Kellie Leigh on koala rescue and survival post bushfires (Science for Wildlife)
- Belinda Medlyn on native vegetation coping with drought and fire (Western Sydney University)
