Spring is here, Michael has come and checked the health of our bees, and soon we will see them again on our Thymes which are beginning to shoot. Life is returning to Jekka's Herbetum after a much longer and colder winter than last year.
Jekka's Herb Farm is a hive of activity; Tim is cleaning the hard standings and James is moving the stock outside ready for our Open Days. Jekka, Jifang and Lixia are busy propagating and potting up ready for the new season, whilst Rosie and Caroline are trying to keep up with our Online orders and Farm Gate Collections ('click & collect'); thank you to everyone that has popped by.
One important task at this time of year, especially after the wind and cold period we have experienced, is to prune back some of your perennials to promote new growth and maintain their shape. Jekka and Hannah have produced a number of new 'How to grow herbs' videos explaining the difference in pruning across the herb families. For example, when pruning the Lamiaceae family you must stay in the green and when pruning Myrtaceae you can cut back into old wood.
Easter for us is all about celebrating the onset of Spring. Due to the popularity of our Spring Herb Collections and to add flavour to your Sunday Easter lunch or a splash of colour to your herb border we are pleased to launch two new special Easter Herb Collections.
Our herb boxes contain four 1 ltr (13 cm diameter) herb plants propagated and grown on the herb farm. Ordered online and delivered to your door.
Following on from our last news letter, we are very excited to be able to run our Herb Experiences this year, including Master Classes, Open Days and Group Visits as well as Jekka's HerbFest. Save the date!
If you cannot wait till then, view Jekka online next Tuesday 23rd March at 19:30 discussing Herbs to Savour and Flavour for the West of England Herb Group. Tickets on sale now on eventbrite.
