Saturday at the Roundhouse

                                               March 20th

     4070
The cab rebuild is now at the stage where we can focus on details. The curved wooden roof framing was retrieved and fortunately all location markings are intact.  Now we can decide which ones need to be replaced and set about making new ones. We can also start working on the wall framing.

The Tool Room

Last Saturday volunteers got the remaining shelving moved from a wall, so the room is ready for paint.  The shelving, cabinet and refrigerator need to be moved out of the hallway and back into the tool room.  The shop area has accumulated a lot of clutter so we will need some help getting things to their proper storage location. A good dusting and cleaning is in order for the whole shop area.

The Drott
Years ago when the engine was removed for rebuild, many parts were put into storage and then moved around. We will need some help tracking down their current location. Any mechanical help is always welcome. We will desperately need the Drott for many aspects of 4070's restoration.

Our efforts to maintain our Alco are ongoing.  There is still a list of issues that need to be addressed.   If you have mechanical skills or interest, this is a great volunteer opportunity to work with others that have similar interest.

The America
Volunteers have been working during the past weeks to clean the car, but the car still has a list of chores that needs to get done. Just time and effort needed there. Several appliances for the kitchen have been acquired.

Odds and Ends
During his recent trip Steve K was able to acquire a ballast tamping machine. Spring brings track work and we have plenty of maintence work and the rebuild of a storage track coming up. Eat your spinach in preparation for some hard but fun work.

ANNUAL SAFETY CLASS.
Our annual safety class has been scheduled for March 27th. from 11:00-3:00.  Covid restrictions make a video presentation the most practical at this time. Steve Emling will conduct the class via Zoom. To participate your email address is required in order to receive an email link to Zoom.  You can do so by emailing the office or use the Signup Genius link on this page. Attendance is mandatory for anyone working on site.

 RPCA
The RPCA Committee is looking for volunteers to help out.  A lot of work has been done but there is still plenty of work to do. Contact the office or any Board member if you are interested in being part of this endeavor in any way.  Currently a video presentation is being prepared that will be shown at this year's virtual conference that will introduce our event for 2022.

Limited Time Offer
We are still accepting donations in accordance with the past few weekends mailing that offers specially designed tee shirts and sweat shirts as a thank you gift to the donor. The offer will probably last until the end of March. These particular items may not be made available in the gift shop  when it opens, so reserve yours now.

The roundhouse is a safe and compliant place to work and interface with others. Masks are required. Common areas are continually being sanitized for our safety.  The governor is changing these guidelines on a weekly basis and we will reflect them as they are made.
