The Immersive Media Performing Arts Center (iMPAC) is open and hosting everyone from the professional stylings of Disney princess Susan Egan to our magnificent Gulf Coast Symphony. This state-of-the-art, 54,000-square-foot facility includes a 1,200-seat theatre complete with the newest performance technology. In honor of the countless medical professionals who have been providing critical care to keep our communities safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic, March 11, 2021 was proclaimed as “Healthcare Heroes Day” in the City of Gulfport by Mayor Billy Hewes.
Memorial team members safely attended the announcement from Mayor Hewes and hospital administration exactly one year after the first COVID-19 positive case was reported in Mississippi.
“Healthcare Heroes have always made a difference in our lives. For generations, we have depended on them to mend our wounds, and restore our health. Over the past year, we have witnessed them courageously rise beyond the call of duty and perform their work in challenging circumstances—all for our good. It is an honor to recognize them as the heroes of the community that they are,” said City of Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes.
“Memorial is committed to providing the most comprehensive care to those who need it most in Gulfport and in our surrounding communities,” said Memorial CEO and President Kent Nicaud. He continued, “The steadfast dedication and courage displayed by our team members during this most challenging time is truly extraordinary, and we are grateful to all who are committed to our mission of building a healthier community.”
Healthcare professionals have provided essential services during the global coronavirus pandemic which has tragically taken the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the United States and more than a million worldwide.

The City of Gulfport collected over 7,000 16 oz. jars of peanut butter as a part of Extra Table's March of the Mayors! This massive effort took many dedicated participants. Our great residents, the school districts, Gulfport Fire Department, City Council, the Gulfport Mayor's Youth Council, the Mayor's Office and communities across the Coast made a huge impact for families in our region. This Coastal effort yielded 2500 boxes of shelf stable food that was distributed to food pantries in each Coastal city.
