Important Information for 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Students Regarding CMAS Testing

Dear Niwot Elementary Families,

Thank you for your continued partnership in advancing academic growth for our students. As you know, April is the window for the administration of Colorado’s required state assessment. This year, we will be administering these required assessments on the following dates:
  • April 12, 13, and 14

    • Grades 3, 5 English Language Arts (CMAS and CoAlt)

    • Grade 4 Mathematics (CMAS and CoAlt)

If you have any questions about how to support your student’s success during these state assessments or have concerns about your child’s participation, please feel free to contact me directly at 303-652-2828 or pitz_nancy@svvsd.org. While participation is not mandatory, it is encouraged so that we can use the data to continue to improve learning and academic support for our students.

St. Vrain Valley Schools utilizes assessment data and additional data sources to identify ways to increase student achievement. The goal is to provide rich learning opportunities that engage students and prepare them for success in the 21st century. Data collected from these state-mandated exams contribute to St. Vrain Valley Schools’ comprehensive suite of tools and programs designed to enhance student achievement, promote diversified and individualized learning opportunities, identify areas of need to support early intervention, and provide valuable data that helps inform future curriculum and instructional development.

A federal waiver was granted on March 26, 2021 creating the following optional assessments:
  • Grades 4 English Language Arts (CMAS and CoAlt)

  • Grade 3, 5 Mathematics (CMAS and CoAlt)

If you would like your student to take the optional CMAS ELA or Math test in addition to the one which is required, please contact me at pitz_nancy@svvsd.org or call 303-652-2828 by April 8, 2021 to opt them in. If you do not want them to take the optional test, you do not need to do anything.

Students who are learning remotely will have the opportunity to take the assessments in-person at the school. Whether your children come in for testing is your decision, and no negative consequences will be imposed should you choose not to send them. Please contact me directly for specific test scheduling for remote learners.

To help your student best prepare for success on these assessments, we encourage students to get a restful night’s sleep, eat breakfast, be on time, and bring a clean water bottle to school.

Again, thank you for your continued partnership and support as we continue to support the success of our students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.

Sincerely,

Nancy Pitz

Principal
