“I wish each of us Easter eyes, able to perceive in death, life; in guilt, forgiveness; in separation, unity; in wounds, glory; in the human, God; in God, the human; and in the I, the you.”
(Bishop Klaus Hemmerle of Aachen)

Outreach at Holy Family

For many years Holy Family has been known for its outstanding outreach projects in the Henderson County area. I am pleased and honored to say that the congregation continues to live up to their legacy of reaching out to the needy in the name of our Holy Family community, made tangible through the love of our Lord and the gifts of our members.

I am pleased to announce to you another milestone in our outreach to IAM, the food ministry we support.  This past month (March) we were challenged to provide 500 lbs. of food to their pantry.  Now that is a large goal for a small church such as ours.  Bur we met, and exceeded the goal by giving 516 lbs!

I am confident that we can provide even more for IAM’s needs, and our entire congregation is excited to be able to participate in this Ministry.

GREAT NEWS
Great news
Thanks to an updated letter from Bishop Jose, Holy Family can now open up without reservations. Seating has been arranged to accommodate 60 people and meet the social distancing requirements. This is just in time for Holy Week and Easter. So shed your Sunday bathrobes, get dressed, comb your hair, move off the couch,  don your mask, and join us for worship. Bring a friend and introduce them to Holy Family.

For those who are unable to attend, live stream and recorded services will still be available. Look for the links under the computer links section of this newsletter.
Silent Evangelism

Throughout Holy Week, we have heard Fr. Chris speak about carrying the good news out into the world to others. How do we move our church from being the best kept secret in Mills River to becoming better known. The answer to this is that dreaded word Evangelism. For some this evokes uncomfortable images of confronting people in the Ingles parking lot and asking “are you saved”. That’s not what is expected. So what can we do? How can we reach people outside of the parish and make ourselves known in Mills River?

As you know, we have a site on Facebook where information about the parish is posted periodically. If you look at any of these posts you will see at the bottom an opportunity to like, comment, and share. A painless, safe and effective way to let others in the world know about our parish is to hit the share button. When you do this, the information is posted under your name and goes to all your Facebook friends. I did this recently on a post about our Lenten food drive and got a response from a neighbor about how she needed to clean out her pantry and we received from them 4 big food boxes. I have had responses to shared posts from Germany, California, Florida, Indiana, Oklahoma, and North Carolina.   Imagine how many people could be reached if we collectively shared the Holy Family posts. So let’s give this silent evangelism tool a try.  You never know who will be touched.

I am so happy church is back in full swing, safely of course! The children’s program has lots of fun things in store for the spring season. We pressure washed the play ground and plan to weed and re-mulch in the week or so.
Carolyn welcomed our newest little holy family babe on April 2nd, Tyshaun is growing everyday and is such a good baby! I am sure we are all excited to meet him soon, until then say a sweet prayer for him and his parents.
We only had the Garcia girls on Easter, so we will be doing some more Easter activities this Sunday when we have more kiddos!
Also, with the growth and new needs of our children’s program I have made a Amazon wishlist, if you feel called to order a new book, activity, or toy, I would be so thankful! We new have three little children under three years old and we don’t have a lot of age appropriate toys for them, and could really use them! Here is the link to the wish list!

As always, I am so appreciative and overwhelmed by the love and support the children’s program always receives!

All about IAM

Now that Holy Family has embraced the goal of collecting 500 lbs of food for IAM by Easter, Inquiring minds might want to know what is IAM and what is Holy Family’s role in supporting this organization

What is IAM?

Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization providing assistance to Henderson County residents since 1984. Established by local churches, the Hendersonville Ministerial Association and the synagogue to coordinate crisis services in their behalf, Interfaith is now supported by local congregations, businesses, civic groups, individuals and grants.

Our Mission: To assist members of our community experiencing crisis with basic needs, in an atmosphere of compassion and respect.

Our Vision: A compassionate community working together to meet the basic needs of all in our county.

What is Holy Family’s Role with IAM?

Holy Family along with area congregations, provide IAM with funds and in-kind donations of critical supplies such as food, clothing, blankets, school supplies, etc. Their membership also fills many key volunteer positions and offers their time and talents for special projects needed to maintain and improve the IAM facility. Congregations are the heart of our work to meet the basic needs of all in Henderson County.
Holy Family has supported IAM for many years as part of our mission of bringing the love of Christ to Henderson county.
