Welcome back to JCI Scotland's monthly newsletter!

Wow, what a month we've had since our last newsletter. So settle in, grab a cuppa (or maybe a cheeky piece of Easter chocolate) and read on to find out what we've been up to. You'll also find a sneaky peak at what's to come in April!
Thank you to all the members and guests who contributed and participated in JCI Scotland's 2021 National Conference: The Story of Scotland. I'm sure you'll agree, it was quite the weekend! Huge thanks to our 2021 hosts, JCI Edinburgh, and of course to Laird Smith, our 2021 Conference Director and the Conference Organising Committee (COC): Valerie, Judy, Emma, Kasia and Anna!

Check out this video that the COC created to share with you some of the fun we had over the weekend and to offer thanks to a few people who helped shape the weekend into one we hope you all enjoyed.

Firstly, the COC would like to thank our sponsor, FWB Park Brown for their generous help and support.

Secondly, a thank you goes out to our partner, BNI, who hosted a fantastic session for us on networking and how to use zoom to your advantage.

Thirdly, we would like to thank our speakers, workshop and entertainment hosts:
Event - Invisible Cities
Speakers - Louise MacDonald OBE , Charandeep Singh & Viana Maya
Workshops - The Melting Pot & Uno Mas Bar
Entertainment - Nicole Borg, Helena Rose, Tim Licata & HOT PINK Events
Hosts - Mark, Steven & Lee

Finally, we would like to thank each and everyone of you, our members and friends, for coming along and sharing with us your laughter and for getting involved in all our sessions.

We would also like to say a huge congratulations to our local organisations and members who received an award for their incredible input to JCI Scotland last year. We are so glad that we were able to celebrate the amazing work you do locally and share this success with others.

JCI Scotland's Inspiring Leaders Programme

March turned out to be quite a big month for JCI Scotland as we also launched our new 'Inspiring Leaders' programme!

Inspiring Leaders focuses on skills development to support young professionals to increase their knowledge and to develop and apply those key skills which will help them to achieve personal and professional success. In these unprecedented times of furlough and job losses, it is ever more critical that we invest in the skills of our future leaders. The goal is to enhance the capabilities of attendees through opportunities to explore new concepts, refresh their skills, and boost productivity. The impact of this will be two-fold: continuous development of JCI members and addressing a societal need.

International Women's Day & Women's History Month

1. Did you spot our social media campaign in honour International Women's' Day & Women's History Month?

This campaign set out to showcase the amazing women we have in leadership positions in JCI Scotland and give you an opportunity to find out more about them.

Not seen them? How about you take 5 minutes to check out the videos linked below.
JCI Scotland
JCI Edinburgh
JCI Glasgow
JCI Aberdeen

A huge thank you to Robyn from JCI Aberdeen for developing this idea and all the material to go with it!

2. Did you also attend 'The Power of Female Mentors' panel discussion, an Inspiring Leaders event hosted in partnership by JCI Edinburgh and JCI Aberdeen, alongside YWCA Scotland. In this joint event for International Women's Day, the panel explored the value, power, implementation and urgent need for female mentors in business, political spheres, activism, education and more.

Now, onwards and upwards...check out all the AMAZING events we're bringing to you this month!

Remember, no matter which JCI Local Organisation you are a member of, you are welcome at all events across Scotland and internationally. So get out there, network and learn!

Here's a little more info on some events...
The imperfect guide to inclusive online events: This is another event in our Inspiring Leaders series, facilitated by JCI Glasgow member Lynn! Digital inclusion and engagement are complex topics; but too important to be ignored. This session will offer a safe space to introduce participants to some useful principles for running more inclusive digital get-togethers.

JCI Glasgow are also hosting an Open Night this coming Wednesday for those in the Glasgow/West of Scotland area to find out more about the opportunities available through JCI.

Introduction to Carbon Literacy: In this interactive webinar, Ilona from JCI UK and Director/Co-Founder of Elevate GM, will provide an introduction to the Carbon Literacy Project and the associated training programme. Ilona will provide a high level explanation of the causes and impact of climate change, offer suggestions of how to modify behaviour to reduce your carbon footprint, introduce the concept of climate justice and advise on how to advocate for change.

Introduction to Public Speaking: Delivered as part of JCI Scotland's 'Speak with Confidence' programme, this event is the first in a four-part introductory series to public speaking. For this series, JCI Aberdeen is delighted to partner with James McGinty, Toastmasters UK Public speaking champion.

In April, JCI Aberdeen are also leading a 'Cleaning up Scotland' campaign in the run up to Earth Day on 22nd April. This is a great opportunity to get involved and clean up your local area.

European Debate Academy

On 23-25th April, JCI Scotland is hosting the European Debate Academy. JCI Scotland has a long history of debating and we want to share our knowledge and skills with others, and help to raise the levels of debating in Europe. This is aimed specifically at members who are interested in representing JCI Scotland at the European Conference debating competition in June. We have 3 initial spaces available for Scotland members although there may be more nearer the time.

If you would like to take part in the Debate Academy, or have any questions, please contact Katie Black, president@jciscotland.org.uk.
To round up this April newsletter, on behalf of JCI Scotland, I'd like to thank all our members and supporters for raising FREE donations for JCI Scotland by shopping online via EasyFundraising. These funds can make such a difference to us during these challenging times, helping us to continue to invest in our members.
