ScratchJr
Available with LAUSD Single Sign On (SSO).
ScratchJr will work best when kids have lots of guided practice through structured exercises and hands-on support. Although the interface is designed to appeal to younger kids, the program still features a lot of things to click and drag around. So confusion is likely, and getting stuck is easy. But with carefully prepared lessons that walk students step by step through the activities, in an hour or two, they should be able to modify stock programs and even start building their own interactive scenes.

Reduce Student Anxiety (and Your Own) During Uncertain Times
As the coronavirus pandemic moves into its second year, many students, teachers, and families face uncertainty about when, or how, their schools will make the transition to hybrid or, eventually, fully in-person learning. The dynamic nature of the pandemic -- not to mention everything from vaccine misinformation to highly politicized debates around school reopenings -- can make for a lot of confusion for everyone, especially kids. As many of us prepare for some form of transition back into the classroom, it's easy for students to find themselves confused or worried as they try to make sense of what's happening.

Course of Mind: Dive Into the Learning Sciences
There are many ways to refer to a field of research that focuses on what makes learning happen. How do we learn? How is our learning affected by our body, our tools, and materials, our resources, our relationships, or our environment? How do these factors all come together to shape what and how we learn? These questions are complex and not easily answered by just one field of research.

3 Steps to Dismantle Inequities in Your School
I have the good fortune of working with talented educators around the country who are committed to centering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in their work. In my roles as a former founding school leader and as I now train, coach, and support education and nonprofit leaders near and far, I get to see entire organizations come to life when they meaningfully commit to infusing DEI effectively into their day-to-day practices.
