The 2021 Rice Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Rice Alliance and the Jones Graduate School of Business, will take place virtually April 6-9, 2021, with 54 startups competing in multiple rounds followed by networking with 300+ investors, judges and each other. This year's startups represent 44 universities and 6 countries. Similar to years past, about 1/3 of the startups are competing in the life science sector and about 1/3 are competing in energy, cleantech, sustainability and hard tech.  New this year, about 20% are consumer-oriented startups, and the remainder are software and digital startups.
