WIN Book Club
April 19th, 2021 5:00-6:30
Zoom Book Club

5-6:30 pm

In April, we’re mixing it up!  Join us for Zoom Book Club to discuss the book Real Impact by Morgan Simon

Impact investment -- the support of social and environmental projects with a financial return -- has become a hot topic on the global stage; poised to eclipse traditional aid by ten times in the next decade. But the field is at a tipping point: Will impact investment empower millions of people worldwide, or will it replicate the same mistakes that have plagued both aid and finance?  Morgan Simon is an investment professional who works at the nexus of social finance and social justice. In Real Impact, she teaches us how to get it right, leveraging the world's resources to truly transform the economy. Over the past seventeen years, Simon has influenced over $150 billion from endowments, families, and foundations. In Real Impact, Simon shares her experience as both investor and activist to offer clear strategies for investors, community leaders, and entrepreneurs alike.

We’re excited to dig into this book as a group and share our observations, aha! moments, etc.  It’ll be an hour and a half of conversation, reflection and celebration with women who want to use their economic power for good!  So, how can you participate?

Learn More About Integrated Capital
Last year, when Deborah Frieze came and shared her story with us, she told us she was working on a set of Integrated Capital Cards. Exciting news! The cards are now available.

"The Boston Impact Initiative introduces Integrated Capital Cards, a card deck designed to help you learn how to deploy integrated capital to close the racial wealth divide. With eight suits, including Local Stakeholders, Funding Source, Impact Criteria and Transaction Structure, these 121 bilingual (English/Spanish) cards provide a colorful, interactive glossary and games for those interested in this work. Great for impact investors, students, bankers, lawyers, social entrepreneurs and philanthropic funders!

The deck can be used in an in-person or online learning format so that participants can engage in multiplayer games to match types of capital and transaction structures with startups, small businesses and nonprofits that are contributing to building regenerative and equitable economies. Groups of 4-6 players can gather in breakout rooms to play some of the games listed below. BII staff can host a 90-minute online session for your community, including providing case studies that focus on issues you most want to learn about. Or we’ll train you how to host the games yourself."
