WizTech & Zen Cart News

It has been a very long year! At least there's hope that things improve! (I got my vaccination - how about you?)

Zen Cart v.1.5.7c

I'm now upgrading to 1.5.6c or 1.5.7c. I'm still giving folks a choice if their mods can't be upgraded. 1.5.7c came out in early March and doesn't have any major bug fixes. That may well mean it's the last minor version and it definitely is stable. I'm starting to find new clients who already have 1.5.7 installed so I've spent some quality time with it recently.

Several bits of my template have found their way into Zen Cart 1.5.7, including ezpages on sitemap and the shopping cart define page. But in 1.5.7 there's also now a plugin manager with a sample mod included. That mod allows the owner to look at the log folder errors inside of admin - and will show an alert constantly in the admin header until those errors are deleted. The good news is that never again will a site end up slowing down so much from major errors. The bad news is I may need to see those errors when I start work. This was part of the discussion about adding this mod and we all agreed it was a valuable addition. (Just don't ignore it, eh?)

As I said before one thing I have to brag about is the inclusion of a define page in 1.5.7 for the shopping cart. This has always been available as a mod but it's always been a pain in the neck to remember or even note that it's installed when I go to upgrade the site. I included it in my template for 1.5.6 since it was coming.

It was my first actual code contribution to the core Zen Cart version. It's a super (and easy) way to deliver shipping info and vacation times to your buyers before they check out. It's interesting to me how many folks haven't and aren't taking advantage of this new feature. At the least, store owners need to realize it's there and they may need to delete the holding text or write new:

Upgrading and the WizTech Template

My template upgrade to 1.5.7c has some new features included. Read more about the template and those updates in the blog: https://wiztech4zc.com/blog/ready-to-go-template-changes/ and https://wiztech4zc.com/blog/wiztech-template-details/.

These new features include mobile information links and ezpages links, ability to include the product attributes in the add to cart box on the product page, and more efficiency in code, arrangements and CSS.

Other folks still are not bothering with upgrading their templates to even 1.5.6c but my responsive template is fully ready for 1.5.7c and PHP 7.3. I find that most folks need a mobile responsive template when they upgrade so I do discount a bit if you do both.Once again, the demo is here: https://deliatest.com/readytogo/

I made the choice to only produce this as a custom template - designed specifically for your website and your needs to make sure I have happy customers. I recently increased the price - I also increased all my prices across the board. Included in the package now can be the installation of additional mods, some rewrites of text, redesign of your home page content, logo design and I always dispense advice (whether you want it or not) and with no extra cost to you! So take a look and then either contact me (https://www.wiztech4zc.com/contact-us.php) or just do it - by purchasing today (https://wiztech4zc.com/hosting/cart.php?a=add&pid=57)

Wiztech Site Changes

In addition to price increases, I also checked all the pages on the WizTech website, rewrote or edited many and rearranged the site. It better reflects what I do now and it never hurts to make site changes! It was fun activity, helping me to re-evaluate my business, objectives and methods. I decided I was fine, by the way but since I hadn't raised rates in quite a few years, it did make me realize that was necessary now.

E-Commerce Consultant

It's what I call myself - because of my background, skills and interests, I'm not just a web designer or web developer. Neither of those adequately describe what I do and for a while, I referrred myself that way - both phrases. The truth is I really love doing evalutations of websites, especially Zen Cart sites, but I'm easily able to view a website and assess how a new visitor might see or experience and come up with recommendations for improvements. Please let me evaluate your site: I really want to!
