HES x Hermanas Unidas x Bears For Financial Success "Moving Out of the Dorms" Workshop
HES is excited to be hosting a Moving out of the Dorms workshop this Thursday, April 8th from 7-8PM! This workshop is in collaboration with Hermanas Unidas and it will be led by Bears For Financial Success. With things seeming like they're going to be in person in the fall, I think it is important to know what resources there are when it comes to looking for housing, grocery shopping, and budgeting. For those of you who may be coming onto campus for the first time next year this can be very insightful! Come out if you can! <3

HES Elections

HES Elections are NEXT week! Save the date for Wednesday, April 14th!! We're incredibly excited to host elections for our upcoming HES Executive Board for the 2021-2022 academic year! Even if you're not running, come hear the candidate speeches and cast your votes! :)

SEEDS
SEEDS is a three day event where HES members bring siblings or friends to stay in Berkeley. Due to COVID-19 limitations, a 2-3 day project will be coordinated throughout the SEEDS event. Throughout the day of Saturday more activities will be held to continue to spark SEEDS creativity and curiosity. Supplies will be shipped to SEEDS. The event will begin on Friday and end on Sunday in the afternoon. Throughout the 3-day event we will be able to check in on them to see how they are doing on the projects. We will also design a model car beforehand to provide SEEDS with different Ideas on how they can design there project.

The DEADLINE to sign up for your siblings/relatives to participate in SEEDS 2021 is APRIL 2nd. If you are planning on inviting more than one SEED, please fill out an individual form for each one. Sign up HERE!!!

IGEM @ Berkeley
IGEMatBerkeley is UC Berkeley's only hands-on synthetic biology research club. We have multidisciplinary interests and students from all different majors. There is no resume required to join as a member and we accept students from all years, majors, and backgrounds. Fill out bit.ly/igemberkeley2 if interested, no resume required!

HES Garden

We are developing the HES student-run campus rooftop garden that intersects urban agriculture practices with technological systems (and other engineering/design aspects). The aim is to educate and provide HES active members with research and hands-on experiences (STEM and non-STEM) in team-oriented projects (with safety precautions). Also, one of the main goals is to increase accessibility and production of healthy foods. If interested, contact hestechgarden@gmail.com or aibarra20@berkeley.edu !!

HES Equity Team to Demand Changes

In the efforts to change L&S's and COE’s, and departments within both, diversity, equity, and inclusion, HES, with the help of Marvin Lopez (Director of Student Programs), is forming a team to have discussions and make requests to departments. We want to increase HES’s visibility within the colleges and demand policies that can help increase diversity, equity, and inclusion. This includes duties such as being involved in the hiring process for the Assistant Dean of Equity and Inclusion of COE and other faculty, to creating concrete and specific plans that can support COE’s, and the departments within, Latinx and Black students. If you are interested, please email guillermo.gonzalez@berkeley.edu
