Kia ora,

What a difference a year makes! Over twelve months have passed since our first lockdown, bringing many changes to our community. Like many other organisations Anxiety NZ adapted and improved access to services. In a very short time, our clinical services, peer support groups and resilience programs were able to be held online. Our free 24/7 national 0800 Anxiety Helpline (0800 269 4389) adapted with new recruitment and online training and support. We trained a new national Helpline Volunteer team from all regions around New Zealand to quickly respond to an increase in people and families calling for support.

Over the past 12 months, Anxiety NZ has increased the use of telehealth (video calls) to provide support to people around NZ through individual therapy sessions, peer support groups and workshops, as well as training our 0800 Anxiety Helpline team. We increased our resources available on our website, and contributions in social and other media channels around improving health and wellbeing and started a regular e-newsletters with helpful tips.

12 MONTHS OF TELEHEALTH IN NUMBERS

We also saw an increase on calls to our 0800 ANXIETY HELPLINE with over 40% more calls during the pandemic. We are pleased to have supported important research with the “Demands on services during COVID-10: helplines study” by the University of Auckland and University of Otago, partially funded by Oakley Mental Health Foundation. We hope Anxiety NZ’s contributions will help to better understand the changes in patterns of contact and service innovations to meet demand for national helpline service provision during a global pandemic, understand how Māori are accessing helpline services, and highlight any variations in patterns of demand.
Our passion for assisting our community motivated us to adept as a team and this journey has been more challenging, rewarding and successful than we could have imagined.
We've learnt a lot with the challenges, but we couldn't have done it without our team's resilience, support and adaptability through these unprecedent times. We'd also like to thank our partners and supporters, and invite you all to get more familiar with our work through our website and support us through our Giveallitle page, if you can.

Keep reading to learn more about some cool youth events we'll be joining this month to help our rangatahi develop resilience, connect with our services and normalise talking about mental health issues.
