Burwash Walks

Like many others in lockdown, I have done a lot of walking and although I have lived in Burwash for over 20 years, I have discovered so many new walks and places that I hadn't been to before.
I thought it would be a lovely idea to share our favourite walks in a printed leaflet that could be available to pick up in the pubs and tea shops for use by residents and tourists. Each walk would have a short paragraph about the person that suggested it and what they love about the walk, details about the walk itself including notable milestones and views, length and difficulty. I would then add directions, a map and a few pictures.

The only proviso would be that it would need to start/finish within the Parish of Burwash. If I can get a few businesses to sponsor the printing, these could be handed out for free.

If you would like to submit a walk, please email me at mary.clarke1@btinternet.com or call 07786 422 870. You don't need to give me detailed directions at this stage as I intend to do each walk and will talk to you about it in more detail before I do it. The walks can be short or long, easy or hard.

The Rural Rother Trust
The Rural Rother Trust have been in contact with the Parish Council to remind us that the Trust is still operating during these difficult times and has been responding to cases of individual need.

Recently the Trust has awarded grants to individuals in difficult circumstances, replacing non-functioning household goods, replacing a blown down garden fence and alleviating losses suffered by someone whose house was flooded during the recent Christmas break.

If you are facing difficulty and would like to find out more about accessing this grant please contact Stephen Hardy, Clerk to the Rural Rother Trust on 07831 494 028.

Applications are straight forward, don’t require an application form and are turned around quickly.

The Trust is still open to applications from community organisations, but has taken the view that during these difficult times, it should give priority to cases of individual need.

Do you have a Tennis Court……..?

The Burwash over 50’s Walking Footballers are looking for a summer training ground and despite out best efforts we have been unable to find anywhere suitable within the parish.

We ain’t getting any younger and chasing the ball down the hill at The Pavilion and to a lesser degree at Swan Meadow is fairly exhausting – especially when you are not allowed to run after it!

So I had this bright idea of trying to find an un-used tennis court to play on.  They are just about the right size and thankfully have a big fence round them to save our poor old legs.

I know there are several courts around that haven’t seen a tennis ball for a few years so if you have a court you no longer use (or even if you do use it but would like to help us out for an hour one evening a week) get in touch and lets see where we go with it.

Within reason we would be happy to tidy it up and give it a sweep, take down/put up the net and may even be able to pay a nominal ‘hire’ charge.

Added to all that you get to see your court used and ten men in shorts every week  – can’t be bad!

But for now we are still playing at Swan Meadow on a Tuesday evening so if you fancy having a go pop-along, but don’t bring your tennis racket….

Call Steve Mintram for more information and to confirm start times on 01435 882444  or Laurence Worton on 884331 about your tennis court.
