Pride Events 2021

Rainbow Commission Pride BannerThe refreshed Arlington LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Commission logo will be front and center as our Pride banners take center stage along Mass Ave. in Arlington Center at the beginning of June. We've updated all the logos and added new banners for a total of 16 for 2021. We're also holding a Pride "Grab and Go" event on Sunday June 13 from 1:30-3:30 at Uncle Sam Park in the Center, where we'll be handing out new branded swag, including stickers, magnets, and tote bags, along with other fun non-branded pride items like flags, rainbow beads, and other goodies. Stop by anytime to say hi and pick up a few items to show your pride.

Help create the Cambridge LGBTQIA+ Community Center

Help create the Cambridge LGBTQIA CenterHelp create the first all-ages LGBTQ+ Community Center in Massachusetts! Be part of our working group. We meet monthly to discuss:  What the Center should look like, what it should offer, and how it can be as inclusive as possible. Email AJoselow@CambridgeMA.gov to get started.

Seeking Working Group Volunteers

The Rainbow Commission has a number of working groups that we'd like to have community participation in. Top of the list are:
  • Community Engagement - Help us with planning events, like Porch Fest, Pride celebration, Town Day, Transgender Day of Visibility, SAGE Table, and other events and activities open to the community.
  • Public Education - Collaborate with School Committee Liaison, teachers, staff, parents, Rainbow Alliances, GSAs, and APS Diversity & Inclusion Groups (DIGs) to create a welcoming culture in Arlington schools.
If you're interested in volunteering for either of these groups, please contact us at rainbow@town.arlington.ma.us

Upcoming events

Reel Queer Screening of Disclosure

Disclusure documentaryJune 22 @ 6:30 - 9:00 pm
Sponsored by Robbins Library Reel Queer and Arlington Senior Center. Email rlorino@minlib.net or MShapiro-Ide@town.arlington.ma.us for meeting links.

“Disclosure is an unprecedented, eye-opening look at transgender depictions in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender. Leading trans thinkers and creatives, including Laverne Cox, Lilly Wachowski, Yance Ford, Mj Rodriguez, Jamie Clayton, and Chaz Bono, share their reactions and resistance to some of Hollywood’s most beloved moments. Grappling with films like A Florida Enchantment (1914), Dog Day AfternoonThe Crying Game, and Boys Don’t Cry, and with shows like The JeffersonsThe L-Word, and Pose, they trace a history that is at once dehumanizing, yet also evolving, complex, and sometimes humorous. What emerges is a fascinating story of dynamic interplay between trans representation on screen, society’s beliefs, and the reality of trans lives.” This film is rated TV-MA and has a runtime of 1h 47min.
