In case you're new to ASCN or desire to get more involved, working group meetings are a great place to start. These are open to all ASCN members and allow you to give insight about upcoming ASCN events and initiatives. Each working group meets regularly and would love to have you. If interested, you can contact the leader of the specific working group you're interested in or email ASCN via cricpe-ascn@wmich.edu.
Part Four- Planning Recruitment
April 29th at 12pm PT | 1pm MT | 2pm CT | 3pm ET
(Switched with part 3 due to scheduling conflicts) This is the fourth in a series of 5 discussions that invites faculty members, department chairs and deans to engage with new approaches to recruiting diverse STEM faculty. We will share resources accumulated by ASCN Working Group 5, share collective knowledge and experiences, and discuss strategies for working towards a more diverse academy. At the end of each session, participants will apply what they learned to hiring practices in their own departments and institutions, culminating in a strategic plan. Participants will identify levers for change, and be supported by the working group and fellow participants in advocating within their sphere of influence. Participants who attend all five sessions will receive a certificate of completion.
Miss the first two sessions? WG5 member Erica Sausner created an "In Case You Missed It" summary for the first event and WG5 leader Holly Cho created one for the second session. You'll be caught up!
Register for one or more of the discussions here!
Consider sharing your ideas for ASCN blogs, webinars or informal discussions! We still have space in Spring 2021. Email the research director ( cricpe-ascn@wmich.edu) if you are interested.

In January of 2021, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) hosted the National Dialogue on Transforming STEM Teaching Evaluation in Higher Education. According to NASEM, the goals of the dialogue were to "contextualize the critical importance of effective and inclusive teaching today; understand the broad array of models and approaches to improve the evaluation of teaching; and examine strategies on how to address cross-cutting challenges to reform processes for evaluating teaching." Scholars from around the country shared research projects, engaged in the discussion forum, and listened to plenary speakers around these goals.
ASCN is hosting a series of blog posts for the community to weigh in and to keep the dialogue going and growing. We want to continue the dialogue and we want you to participate. Leveraging our collective perspectives and wisdom will foster better, more creative ideas for how to create the systemic change necessary to guarantee that the education we provide is indeed inclusive and effective.
The co-leaders of ASCN working group 6, Christine Broussard and Kadian Callahan, have provided the introduction and the first blog to start off the series and we are interested in hearing from YOU on the topic. Submissions will be around 400-500 words and sent directly to us. You can find more information about submitting here.

Change theories relevant to STEM higher education come from diverse fields. It can be hard to find relevant theories and key references. As such, Working Group 1 designed a set of short summaries (1-2 pages) as a collection of resources because we all need help learning about theories. You can see an example above in a screenshot of a summary written by ASCN member Alice Olmstead.
Summaries are organized by the target of the change you seek to enact, such as individuals, organizations/systems, or culture.
