What Power Does Your County Sheriff Have?
In the midst of political leaders over-stepping their legal boundaries, it's important to understand the authority and responsibilities that County Sheriffs have.
Did you know?
• A County Sheriff is responsible for the enforcement of the Public and Organic Law, including the actual Constitution owed to our States and the protection of the property, persons, and guaranteed rights of the people living within the borders of his/her County.
• A County Sheriff is not held accountable to an outside committee. The voters alone can hold the Sheriff accountable by voting him/her in or out of office, although this is currently trying to be changed in California.
• A County Sheriff has the right and responsibility to uphold the Constitution of the Country and the State, even if it means going against higher elected officials. You can see this in action with Sheriff Chad Bianco and his stand against Governor Newsom regarding shutdowns. Another example is in Utah, where almost all elected sheriffs signed an agreement to protect the Bill of Rights—and fight any federal officials who tried to limit them.
Unfortunately there are also many Sheriffs like Alex Villanueva, who believes he should be able to close gun stores if he decides they make Los Angeles County unsafe.
That's why it is so important to elect and keep in office Red, White & Blue Sheriffs. We need to be electing and supporting officials who will support and fight for our Constitutional rights.
In the next three months you will see 1776 Forever Free getting more involved at the Sheriff level. We will be helping get Sheriffs specifically, elected and reelected who embody our values.
