Birmingham Water Works
2021 School Program Contest

Hello!
An additional part of our annual school program, our creative competition is open to all fifth graders in the water system’s service area, which includes schools in Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, and Walker Counties. This year, students can create a poster, a 30-second video, or an essay that conveys how water is Essential to Life in our daily lives, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Judging will be based on creativity, originality, and how well the submission expresses the theme, “Essential to Life.” Prizes will be awarded to a winner in each category. The first-place winner will receive an Apple Watch, the second-place winner will receive a Nintendo Switch, and the third-place winner will receive a gift card of their choice to the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Submission deadline has been extended to April 30, 2021. Don’t wait; have your students start thinking about their projects now! Download our poster contest flyer for complete rules and details.

2021 Virtual School Program

Birmingham Water Works is excited to continue our annual “A World Without Water” school program as a virtual curriculum to teach fifth-graders across our service area all about the importance of water!

The theme for the program challenges the students to grasp how water is Essential to Life. Water makes up at least 70 percent of our bodies. We use it to cook and clean, as well as to make products and materials. Increasingly, water pollution threatens the availability of a safe water supply. And, as we have learned over the past year, washing our hands is necessary to prevent the spread of disease.

Puzzles, quizzes, videos, at-home experiments, and other activities will be available at bwwb.org/community/school.
