Safety Tip: Cows & Calves
Handling livestock always involves risks. Calving cows can be unpredictable. A cow may behave differently year to year. Be aware and alert. Identify cows that are bad-tempered when calving or with a new calf, and let other workers know.

Visit our website for more cattle and livestock handling resources.

Workers are arriving to farms, ranches, vineyards and greenhouses all around British Columbia. It’s time for safety orientations and refreshers.

Employers are responsible for the safety of their workers. Returning employees will need safety updates, especially if you’ve changed anything about your operation in their absence.

Workers who are new to your operation may be skilled experts, but they won’t necessarily know how you like things done. Take the time to introduce them to your operation, safety systems and protocols.

Young workers are most at risk for injury simply because they lack experience. Educate your young workers to identify hazards and minimize risks. Encourage them to speak up if they are unsure of their task or a safety protocol.

AgSafe has safety orientation resources for both employers and employees, including Worker Orientation videos and reference booklets. Visit the Tools & Resources section of our website to view and download the resource you need.
