EXCITING NEWS! Eudunda Caravan Park Cabin Purchase Project

By Peter on Mar 30, 2021 03:08 pm
Eudunda Caravan Park - Cabins Appeal - Donation Request Flyer

The Eudunda Community Business & Tourism Committee (ECBaT) & the Eudunda Caravan Park Subcommittee are excited to announce a further extension to the facilities available at the Eudunda Caravan Park. The park currently has 8 powered sites after increasing the number of sites by 4 in November 2020.

The next stage is to purchase & locate two 2-bedroom cabins to provide accommodation for tourists & workers visiting our town & region.

The Caravan Park Manager is currently receiving significant enquiries for cabin accommodation which the park is unable to provide.

The expansion of the Caravan Park is a significant investment in the future of our community as a tourism stop & accordingly will generate additional income for the community of Eudunda. Many of our neighbouring towns of similar size have had caravan parks & cabins established for many years. eg Kapunda, Burra, Morgan & Riverton. The expansion of the caravan park & the addition of cabins fills a gap within our community facilities.

Eudunda is situated in the middle of 4 major tourist regions in South Australia – the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Burra & the Riverland. All these areas are comfortable day trips from Eudunda, so there is potential to promote Eudunda as a central tourist place to stay while visiting these areas.

The Eudunda Caravan Park is situated on the eastern edge of Eudunda on the Thiele Highway. It is surrounded by many facilities such as the Eudunda Swimming Pool, Eudunda Sporting Complex, Eudunda Oval, Eudunda Netball & Tennis Courts, Eudunda Show Grounds Buildings, Children’s Playground, Eudunda Golf Club, Eudunda Area School, Eudunda Red Cross Op-shop & Eudunda Day Care Centre. The area has activity but also tranquility.

The town centre is a short walk away past the Eudunda Railway Station (under renovation), the Viterra Silos (a mural painting project is currently being undertaken) & the Centennial Gardens (Colin Thiele) Gardens and War Memorial Gardens and the Eudunda Family Heritage Gallery. ECBAT’s Visitor Information Service is in the process of an upgrade to provide information and Eudunda is now well placed to look after visitors with a good choice of various food, coffee and drinks venues. Eudunda can also boast a Supermarket and Roadhouse open 7 days a week for extended hours. The caravan park provides an attractive resting place on the edge of town for the community, visitors, tourists & workers.

ECBaT & the Eudunda Community have increased the number of tourist opportunities available in the region in the last 10 years. Some of these events are as follows: Eudunda/Kapunda 24-hour Reliability Motor Cycle Trial, Walky 100 Car Rally, Lavender Federation Trail for walkers & the Lavender Cycling Trail (M2C) for cyclists, ‘The Barn’ at Wombat Flat musical events at Neales Flat near Eudunda, the Iris Flower Gardens Open Weekend (several locations) & the Eudunda Christmas Street Parade. Ongoing events include the Eudunda Show, Australia Day Breakfast in the gardens, ANZAC Day celebrations, JAK Golf Weekend & many Lawn Bowls competitions. The addition of two 2-bedroom cabins adds some expansion & alternatives to the existing accommodation available in Eudunda via the hotels & bed & breakfast accommodation.

A recent initiative by the Clare & Gilbert Valley Council and the Regional Council of Goyder was to develop further tourism trails in the area, with the aim of inviting our visitors to stay a day or two longer in the area and enjoy it more. The financial benefits to the district are well worth the effort. Work is underway to develop these and other trails to expand the assets around Eudunda and the district.

The ECBaT Caravan Park Subcommittee organizing & promoting this project is: Judy Partington (Chair of ECBaT), Greg Post (long term member of ECBaT & original member of subcommittee from 2017), Steve Wegener (Manager of Caravan Park) & Mel Zerner (ex-resident of Eudunda).

The estimated cost of the two cabins including preparation of the site & connection of services is $170,000. This is planned to be funded by committed cash donations of $55,000, “in kind” donations of labour & machinery of $20,000, a Government grant (currently being assessed) of $75,000 & community donations still to be received of $20,000.

A donation promotion is being conducted over the next 4 months to raise the additional $20,000 to fund the project & a flier is now circulating.

Please consider making a donation to assist ECBaT to undertake the project.

The material for the quilt had been purchased by the late Deadra Leditschke, and was beautifully made by Deadra’s friend Mary Laucke, who selflessly donated the quilt to the Eudunda Bowling Club in memory of Deadra. The raffle was drawn by Bob Leditschke and was won by Eudunda bowler Ron Hams.

Truro A5 Cricketers Celebrate Grand Final Victory at Eudunda

By Peter on Mar 29, 2021 03:13 am
Truro A5 Team - Grand Final winners 2021

The Barossa and Light Cricket Association have had a very busy weekend with their grand finals held throughout the region.

Eudunda were luck enough to host one of these finals, for the A5 Grade between Truro Cricket Club and South Gawler. Truro finished top of the ladder leading into the finals with South Gawler 3rd. The semi finals the week earlier saw Truro against Light Pass, with a comfortable win while South Gawler faced and won against Tanunda.

The grand final started with South Gawler winning the coin toss and choosing to bat. Both teams had supporters to cheer them on.

Truro started with their youngest bowlers, Hartley Eggleton (15) and Jordan Bevan (14) opening and at the drinks break South Gawler were looking good with 3/67. After drinks Truro managed to get South Gawler all out for 106. Hartley ended up taking 3 wickets for the day. Other wicket takers were Scott Murphy, Cody Longo and Steven Lord, each taking 2 and Ryan Baird taking 1. Wicket Keeper for Truro was Toby Eggleton.

Truro’s innings started a little rockily, loosing a couple of early wickets, however with batter, Kingsley Munchenberg, staying in from the 2nd until the 24th over and the partnership he had with Craig Schulz, Truro were able to stay within reach of the target. After Kingsley’s dismissal Hartley Eggleton came in, and with Craig, they were able to make the remaining necessary runs required in just under 31 overs. South Gawler’s Wicket Keeper was JR Verrall.

The Truro Cricket Club ( known as the Truro Rammers) is known and prides itself on being a family orientated club with a friendly, relaxing, country atmosphere. With amazing sponsors we are able to have cheap memberships and players pay no subs. Getting sponsors supporting this small club ensure it is able to continue to be a part of this competition and to be competitive.

It is with great pleasure to mention that the 2020/2021 season sponsors were: Print Lord, RES, Kym’s Concrete, Hallett Resources,Country Road Funerals,PD Prodigy design plastics, ADFLEX, Truro Hotel, Sparky’s A Class Electrical, AC Light and Sound Mobile Entertainment, Ben Murray Wines and M&M Bevan.

Truro were able to have two teams in the competition this year with the A5 and also an A1 reserve side. The A1 reserves were unable to make it to the finals and it had been 10 years since Truro had won the A5 grand final making this win even more special.

Truro also have two father/son combinations: Kingsley with sons Wade Munchenberg (who play in the 5’s) and Callum Munchenberg (plays in the A1 reserves) and Tobias with son Hartley Eggleton (who play in the 5’s).

After the win in the Grand Final all the boys went back to the club rooms in Truro for BBQ and a few beverages for a small celebration.

Sunday morning saw them head to Angaston to watch their two young lads, Jordan Bevan and Hartley Eggleton, play in their U15s Grand Final against Light Pass which they won easily. The boys play junior cricket for Angaston.

Renewables Projects Update – March 2021

By Peter on Mar 29, 2021 01:59 am
Photovoltaic-Power-Station-Glynn-Co-GA-US-by-Jud-McCranie-Wikipedia
Photovoltaic Power Station – by Jud McCranie – Wikipedia

Read about the current projects happening or proposed in our area from Mel Zerner:

ROBERTSTOWN POWER SUBSTATION UPGRADE

This project involves an upgrade & expansion of the power substation in readiness for the connection of other renewables projects to the substation over the next years. The project commenced in March 2020 & is expected to be completed by June 2021. Enerven, the principal electrical contractor & Catcon, the civil contractor, have completed their work & will be finishing on site by the end of March 2021. At its peak there were around 90 – 100 workers on site.

To complete the project, the following electrical engineer companies are working on the installation of the synchronous condensers which are used to support the power load & network: Siemens, DMB Engineering & ARA Electrical.

The number of workers currently on site is around 40-50 & they are being accommodated in various houses, motels, hotels, bed and breakfast places, caravan parks & cottages in Robertstown, Burra, Eudunda, Kapunda, Farrell Flat & Tarnma. One of the above companies required accommodation for 20 workers for 6 weeks from mid-March to the end of April & they are staying in 6 fully furnished houses in Robertstown, Eudunda, Farrell Flat & Tarnma.

The Eudunda Bakery have provided a breakfast, coffee & lunch service to the workers from early December 2020 to mid- March 2021 & this was much appreciated by the workers. There is also extensive use of local hotels, restaurants, supermarket & motor vehicle fuel & repair services across the region. The various contractors have expressed their thanks for the assistance they have received in accessing and connecting to the accommodation providers & businesses in the local region.

SOLAR RIVER PROJECT – Near Florieton between Burra & Morgan.

The project includes a 200MW photovoltaic array comprising 630000 solar panels and a 200MW battery at a capital cost of $480 million. The project is estimated to require 250 workers over the construction period of 2 years. A contracting company, AECOM, is doing technical & engineering work on a Transmission Construction Agreement which is expected to be completed in the September 2021 quarter. After that, the company will progress to appointing an Engineering Procurement Construction contractor with construction estimated to commence at the beginning of 2022.

ROBERTSTOWN SOLAR – Near Robertstown Power Substation, 5kms north east of Robertstown.

The project is proposed to be an integrated but separately operated photovoltaic energy generation system of 500MW generation capacity & a 250MW/1000MWh battery energy storage system that will feed into the Robertstown Substation. The capital cost is estimated at $1.1 billion. 275 workers are expected to be employed over the two year life of the project. The company is in the process of finalising the capital partner in the project as well as working on the specifications of the connection of the project to the grid and geo-technical and ecological assessments. It is expected that the Engineering Procurement Construction contractor will be appointed in the December 2021 quarter & construction will commence at the beginning of 2022.

GOYDER RENEWABLES PROJECT – NEOEN – Stage 1, 2 & 3 – South of Burra & north of Robertstown near World’s End & Bright.

The first stage of the project will feature 163 wind turbines, 3000ha of solar panels and a huge lithium iron battery generating power of up to 900MW. It is expected that the project will go over 5 stages – 3 stages in Goyder South & 2 stages of Goyder North. The total project will have a capital cost of $3 billion and provide employment for up to 1100 workers over a 5 to 6 year period. A Development Application was lodged in August 2020. Construction is expected to commence later in 2021.

ROBERTSTOWN INTERCONNECTOR PROJECT – East of the Robertstown Power Substation near Florieton.

The Project Energy Connect transmission plan will link South Australia (Robertstown) to NSW (Wagga Wagga) with a 800MW transfer capacity. It will involve the construction of a 330KV above ground transmission line. Electranet are managing the project in South Australia at a cost of $163 million. The project is expected to commence in 2022 & generate employment for 200 workers during the construction phase. Electranet has advised that Early Contractor Involvement has been awarded to Downer Utilities Australia & UGL Engineering.

AUSTRALIA PLAINS SOLAR FARM – GREEN GOLD ENERGY – Approx 16 kms north east of Eudunda.

Green Gold Energy plan to build a 150MW solar farm commencing in the first quarter of 2022 with 300 jobs created. However, there may be some delay to the expected commencement date as they have had to amend the Development Application for a new location nearby and they are in the process of resubmitting to the State Commission Assessment Panel. They are also planning a 100MW solar farm on the Goyder Highway near Morgan and have recently lodged a Development Application for that project.

TWIN CREEK WIND FARM – RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS – Between Eudunda and Kapunda.

The project involves the construction of 51 wind turbines producing 613000 MWh of power per year. Approx 160 workers are expected during construction which is now scheduled to commence in September 2022.

LOCAL ADVANTAGES & BENEFITS

Goyder Council councilors & staff (RCOG), the Eudunda Community Business & Tourism Committee (ECBAT) & the Robertstown & District Community & Management Committee are ensuring that the maximum possible impact & interaction is gained from these projects in the local communities from Burra to Eudunda by connecting the contractors of each project to the local labour force, accommodation & food providers & other businesses. This is being done as a community service project with Mel Zerner, a former local Eudunda resident, voluntarily assisting Goyder Council & the other community groups in this initiative. Mel is in regular contact with the key owners or employees of all of the above projects to obtain status reports and then respond to their local requirements as required.

If you have any questions on the status of the any of the above projects or local requirements or want to ensure that your accommodation, labour or local business services are included on the registers, please contact Mel on Mobile 0418852353.
