A Note from Our President

Dear Villagers,

It’s hard to believe we’re already several months into 2021.  As I reflect on the turbulent year that was 2020, I’m grateful to have spent it in Roscoe Village, buoyed by my neighbors and friends.
While many of RVN’s events had to be put on hold or shifted to virtual, we have continued our mission of supporting education, safety, and neighborhood beautification & sustainability, fully budgeting these areas for 2021.

We have also been preparing for Retro on Roscoe, scheduled for August 13-15.  An event like Retro requires almost year-round planning and after reviewing projections and recommendations from the City of Chicago and health experts, we made the decision to move forward.  We will continue to be guided by best practices and if national or City of Chicago recommendations change, we will re-evaluate.

As we get back to “normal” we are working diligently to make changes for the better.  We have launched a redesigned website to better inform our community of upcoming events and news and have also partnered with RoundUp to help fund our community giving.

We look forward to seeing you at Clean & Green, our Mother's and Father's Day events and Retro on Roscoe! Enjoy the weather as Chicago blossoms!

Larry Peterson, RVN Board President

RVN Neighbors on Watch Safety Update

As we move into Spring, RVN’s Neighborhood on Watch Committee is pleased to report that our Village has never been safer. Chicago Police Department statistics confirm that in 2020 Roscoe Village reached its lowest level of total reported crime since 2013. Violent crime, robberies, burglaries, and criminal damage to property are at all-time lows. Certainly, the effects of the pandemic, including mandatory stay-at-home orders, reduced public transportation use, curtailed public events, and restricted nightlife activity, have all played a role in these low numbers. But in actuality, it’s a continuation of the downward trend in crime the Village has seen each and every year since 2016.
