Announcement:

InclusiveFUTURES

InclusiveFUTURES, organized by DigitalFUTURES, is an entirely free festival that will bring together some of the most talented architects and educators around the world for the largest ever celebration of computation and architectural design.

Last year DigitalFUTURES World broke through the walls of the classroom, and opened up an extraordinary new domain where educational ideas could be disseminated for free to students even in the most economically underprivileged parts of the world. This year we want to push these ideas even further. Education, we believe, should be understood as a universal human right, and not as the privilege of the few.

InclusiveFUTURES will consist of a series of workshops, conference, exhibition and doctoral seminars.

SCHEDULE:

12 June - 24 June

Digital Consortium Doctoral Platform (International Doctoral Program of Tongji University)

1. Architecture + Philosophy

2. Performance Based Digital Design Methodologies

26 June - 3 July

InclusiveFUTURES Workshops

These will consist of online workshops addressing all aspects of the digital. Students can either participate via Zoom, or follow via live-stream. There will also be a few hybrid workshops taking place online, but with fabrication taking place in Shanghai. Many of the leading schools of architecture in the world will take part, including UCL Bartlett, AA, ETH Zürich, ICD Stuttgart, IaaC, SCI-Arc, RMIT, Tongji, Tsinghua, Southeast, Virginia and FIU, together with leading practices, such as Zaha Hadid Architects.

26 June to 4 July

DigitalFUTURES Talk: ZHACODE - mainstream evolution of computational design research

3 April at 9:00am EST / 4:00pm CET / 10:00pm China

ZHACODE, is the Computation and Design group within Zaha Hadid Architects, one of the world's most progressive practices.

This session looks at the 15-year evolution of practise-embedded design-research at ZHACODE including the design-research affiliation and roots at the Architectural Association Design Research Laboratory (AADRL), early experimentation and co-evolution with digital fabrication start-ups, advances in architectural geometry and current focus on impactful contributions to practise and the built environment.

Introduction by: Patrik Schumacher

Presentations by: Alicia Nahmad, Vishu Bhooshan, Henry Louth

Moderated by: Shajay Bhooshan

DigitalFUTURES Young : Sea Level and Climate Change

10 April at 9:00am EST / 4:00pm CET / 10:00pm China

Following our In Deep Water Session last month this panel brings together the next generations of researchers exploring response to Sea Level and Climate Change. What are the potential options? How can cities and the built environment plan for these changes. What actions need to be taken now?

Presentations by: Othmane Kandri, Danielle Khoury Gregorio, Maria  Flores, Alberto Fernández & Nikoletta Karastathi, Mekemta Jodel Bismarc & Takam Kenmogne Sidoine Constant

Moderated by: Antonio Bernacchi & Biayna Bogosian

DigitalFUTURES Talk: Soft Materials

17 April at 10:00am EST / 4:00pm CET / 10:00pm China

Soft Materials are flexible, floppy, and transformable. They are in contrast to the typical architect's fascination with overly structured rigid tectonics. This panel explores the architectural ideas of working with materials that bend, flex, and conform.  Can our built environment be made from such spaces of softness? What are the ways that these types of constructs engage with our bodies? This panel brings leading researchers to discuss working with knitting, textiles, and bending active materials.

Presentations by: Sean Ahlquist, Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen, Yuliya Šinke, Jenny Sabin, Felecia Davis, and Jane Scott

Moderated by: Virginia Melnyk and Philip Beesley

DigitalFUTURES Talk: Space Architecture: Designing Extreme Environments

24 April at 10:00am EST / 4:00pm CET / 10:00pm China

Space is considered one of the ultimate extreme environments. Above the insulating atmosphere of the Earth, Extreme environments are used for early experimentation and prototyping by space architects as they provide extreme harsh obstacles of our existence; These obstacles are turned into design and engineering challenges resulting in technological advancements, scientific developments, research of human psychology, and ways in which space can be inhabited in harmony, not only for space but also for earth.

Presentations by: TBD

Moderated by: Samer El Sayary & Elif Keve
