NCAPA Celebrates the Biden’s Administration’s Commitments to the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Communities. 

Washington, DC—The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) issued the following statement regarding President Biden’s recent announcement and response to anti-Asian violence. The White House statement can be read here. A number of the policy announcements reflect recommendations made by NCAPA in its letter to the White House and its 2020 Policy Platform. Additionally, the Biden Administration named a number of Asian American candidates to be Federal Circuit and District Court judges. 

Today, we thank the Biden Administration for a powerful step towards realizing racial equity for Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. We are thrilled that a number of policy recommendations we have made over the last year now have a path forward.

Much of the focus is understandably in response to the surge of anti-Asian racism; however, the reestablishment of WHIAAPI and data disaggregation are critical steps for the broader community. We encourage the Administration to center Southeast Asian, South Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders in these efforts.

While more work remains, especially on finding a solution in addressing the continued deportation of Southeast Asian Americans, these are tremendous and ambitious goals and we look forward to working with the White House towards achieving.
