A change of pace with some digital work

Hey Friends!

After the rush of my 100 days of small drawings when I was cranking out one drawing a day I decided I wanted to do something at a slower pace, spending more time crafting images and letting them develop. So for the past couple of months I've been working on a new zine, my hope is to have it printed in a month or two.

I've been exploring some new directions and ways to incorporate patterns. I like designing patterns digitally but I don't just slap them on top of the drawing, I have been turning them into custom grids that inform the design. As you can see on the Image above I used an isometric grid that starts as a flat woven design at the bottom and slowly morphs into a 3D look. The image below uses a custom grid (I wrote in more detail about this process here if you want to dive deeper).

An interesting side effect of creating these drawings digitally is that I can get these nifty time-lapse videos, here is a 2 minute video of the drawing above (it took about 8 hours in real time) and here is a 4 minute video of the most recent drawing I completed.

I'm also working on a kinetic version of one of these that I'm very excited about (I made a short 1 minute video of some of the mechanics on TikTok of all places), I'll have more details about that one on the next update.

I hope you are staying safe, Thank you so much for following along!

Federico :)
