CELEBRATING CLARK PARK’S HISTORY – 1888 - 2021

As we begin to celebrate the Clark Park Coalition’s 30th anniversary this year, we thought this would be the perfect time to share some of its rich history.

Clark Park was originally known as Clark Park Grove.  “It used to be part of a ribbon farm that went from the Detroit River all the way to Tireman,” said the Park’s Center Director Anthony Benavides. Upon his death in 1888, John P. ML ELRICK & FRIENDS RAISE $50,000+ IN CHARITY HOCKEY GAME

The east side was on fire Saturday, March 20 at the ESH Ice Arena when ML Elrick and his friends took to the ice in their annual Charity Hockey Classic to raise funds for Clark Park. Normally, the hockey games are part of our annual Winter Carnival, but the pandemic prevented us from opening the outdoor ice rink this season. “Although our ice rink was closed, Dave Kosmas and the East Side Youth Sports Foundation opened their doors to the ESH Ice Arena, and it was GAME ON,” said Clark Park Business Manager, Kate Brennan.

The women started the evening with Team GFL (Green for Life) and the visitors, led by our own Birdie Ball, led the away team to victory! Then it was the men’s turn. Sponsored by National Fleet Services, the home team sailed through and won, with Clark Park’s own Sergio Broughton leading the pack!

Thanks to Altes and Atwater Brewery for providing beer to the thirsty players and the Butchery for providing delicious chicken dinners to the skaters after all their hard work. And a special thank you all of our sponsors and supporters. Many thanks to ML Elrick and his friends for making this happen in spite of the pandemic.

Last but not least, thank you to all our volunteers for their help in making this great evening such a success. For all our efforts, we raised nearly $60,000 for the Clark Park Coalition!
