Is it just us or has the first quarter of 2021 flown by?! The snow is melting and our site furnishings are drying off and being enjoyed every day all over Canada and the USA. Communities are focusing on more ways to encourage people to be outside as temperatures rise and we are right there with them designing and manufacturing products to facilitate healthy living.

Part of encouraging healthy living is rooted in the foundation of Wishbone, “Solutions for the Future from Pieces of the Past”. Many companies talk about how they recycle and use recycled materials. We wanted to show you just how committed we are to that cause and how our team is coming up with new ideas on how to repurpose plastics and metals that are usually destined for the landfill. The video below illustrates just how we do this.

And please scroll on to see our latest products, a feature project and some kind words from another satisfied Wishbone customer.

NEW Video: Showcasing Sustainable Design at Wishbone

This video is a light hearted look at how Wishbone incorporates sustainable design into each product it designs and manufactures. In particular the video looks specifically at the recycled plastic component of our designs and how we go as far as to re-recycle our waste plastic. Enjoy!

NEW PRODUCT: Giggles Children’s Bench

For the creative on the playground, we introduce the Giggle Bench. Made with growing tots in mind, the seat height is adjustable so kids can clambour onto the bench with their little friends to share stories and snacks. Each end of the bench can be used as a fun chalk board for the artist on site and with just a wipe, it becomes a new canvas for the next creator. Plenty of giggles will be heard by little bambinos with hands filled with chalk. A sturdy reinforced seat and back ensure there is no warping or sagging. As with all of our kids’ products, the quality plastic is easy to clean and maintain, endures lots of climbing and leaves fingers and feet free from slivers. The rounded edges and low height make it safe for tots to use. With a fun bench like this, don’t you wish you could be a kid again?

FEATURE PROJECT: The Summit at Quadra Village

In September 2019 Wishbone was approached by Jonny from MDI to provide 40 benches for a large project that was already well underway. The Summit at Quadra Village is a state-of-the-art complex care facility providing 24-hour care and support to over 300 residents with complex long-term needs. Although Wishbone already had several benches that met most of the design parameters, we did not have a bench product that met all of the needs. Jonny’s design was already very close to our Bayside Bench, but also required some of the functional and aesthetic elements already present in our Bayview Bench. Another requirement was an intermediary armrest system that placed armrests at different intervals along the length of the bench. Importantly, the bench had to meet certain ADA requirements for seat height and accessibility.  Enter “Wishbone Innovation”.

Could we simply combine the Bayside and Bayview, thus creating the desired product? The simple answer was yes. The new “Bayview Plus” bench borrows design cues as well as practical features from our Bayside Bench while maintaining the very popular Bayview style. Capped ends on the boards provide a cleaner look, while the armrests and leg ends have been moved to the edges of the bench to provide additional comfort, ADA accessibility and overall seating capacity. The gaps between boards were eliminated with metal inset strips to stop debris collecting between the boards which allows the bench to stay neat and tidy without regular maintenance. The creation of this bench to meet the demands of the project really prove that “good design is in the details”.

What Our Customers are Saying About Wishbone...

“Great guys with a great product; it's nice to be able to work with people that you can trust, and that will deliver a product that meets your expectations.

In this climate, you can’t rely on wood products to stand up, but concrete and steel are just not pleasant in feel or sustainable for the environment.

Just go with a nice recycled, recyclable material with a pleasant look and comfort, from a stand-up company.”
