President Silvio writes. . .

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends,
I hope everyone had a great Easter Break. I know that some of us were able to take the opportunity to enjoy well deserved holidays to re-charge “the batteries”.
We are in the home-stretch in our current Rotary year. I know President Elect Lalitha Warren and the incoming board members are looking forward to next year commencing on 1 July for 2021/2022.
The board members will have received this Sunday’s virtual District Assembly registration request - the Zoom link just having been sent out today. As our very own member Lindsay May OAM is the incoming District Governor, it will be appreciated to have everyone concerned attend and show our support.
Welcome into the world of Rotary Satish. Our newest member of Lane Cove Rotary Club, Satish Chandar was inducted at this week’s meeting and given a rousing welcome by members and guests. Pictured L to R, President Silvio, Dr Suchitra Chandar, Satish Chandar and Past President Tania Mace .Please get to know Satish yet at your earliest opportunity and extending a warm welcome.
Our speaker this week ‘Superhero’ Rotarian Evan Burrell.
Evan has a formidable reputation as a social media wizard. He is also an accomplished public speaker, emcee, trainer, social media advocate and hardworking volunteer with Rotary International. He gave an outstanding presentation on what to focus on when posting on social media and how to maximise the reach to your audience. Evan’s presentation was not only informative and educational it certainly supported the slogan “Let’s have fun in Rotary”.
We were very fortunate to have Evan give his time to address our club. DGE Lindsay May thanked the speaker on behalf of the club and for good measure also tried on Evan’s “Rotary Coat".
Lane Cove Rotary Club supporting the environment by donating 2 recycled plastic benches for Blackman Park.
PP John Palmer and myself met with Lane Cove Council’s Helen Haigh and Daniel Sommerville to identify the locations at Blackman Park for 2 REPLAS re-cycled plastic benches placed on order now. Each bench saves approximately 21,250 pieces of plastic from the environment and 0.28 cubic meters of landfill. World Environment Day is just around the corner and we are doing our bit to save the planet!
Our member Pat Price is the founder and CEO of the Heartland Academy located in Bafal, Nepal and founded in 2008. The school offers educational opportunities to underprivileged children in Kathmandu and broader Nepal. The Rotary Club of Lane Cove has been an ongoing supporter of this project through annual financial support. The club also secured a $50,000 Rotary Global Grant for Heartland Academy. We are delighted to have ongoing feed-back through Pat on how the students at the school are progressing and how are contributions are being used. 'Rotarians Doing Good in the World'.

Roving Report One of our members spent last weekend on a camping trip with four members of the Rotary Club of Gunnedah West. The destination was kept secret just with instructions to meet in Scone at high noon on the Friday. We then followed the organizer to the "Linga Longa Inn" at Gundy for lunch before crossing the hunter river about 20 times as we headed towards the Barrington Tops. The destination was a campground in an Apple Orchard between Moonan Flat and Ellerston.  A fun filled relaxed 3 days followed sharing food, wine and Rotary Fellowship.  Pictured are Mark, Prue, Doug and Ann from RcGW. (The location is so secret Craig Brodey didn't put his name to it).
Our neighbouring club,  North Sydney Rotary invites you to a Chinese Banquet Luncheon in Chatswood on Saturday, 1 May, 2021
Organizer Sam (Samantha Lee) always does a great job with her fund-raising lunches, a highly recommended event to attend and learn how other clubs do fund-raising.
