Technology events for April 2021

Last week I was on a Zoom (of course) and we were talking about facilitating online engagement. I mentioned the prospect of hybrid in-person/online events on the horizon, and immediately felt bad because the folks in my breakout room lived in Canada, Mexico and Nigeria, and they all said that COVID-19 vaccines are not happening for them any time soon.

It is truly remarkable that we are about to enter Group 5 eligibility here in NC.

Given that, Mojo Coworking is offering a free evening meeting session to an Asheville area tech group when they are ready to try an in-person or hybrid meeting. Mojo has an HVAC system that draws in exterior air and has windows that can be opened to the outside. The photo below (obviously taken in "the before times") gives a sense of the space.

Heartbreak via Azure SQL Managed Instance

Juliana Austin presents. In the past 2 months, I've given my life to an Azure SQL Managed Instance running an Azure SSIS Integrated Runtime. It was a very quick, exciting, but volatile (and possibly abusive) relationship. During the course of our short romance, we created and restored databases, made intimate connections (via linked servers), and even published SSIS packages. It was beautiful like most young love is,.. until it wasn't. As the adorable quirks of our puppy love turned into the annoyances of eating crackers in bed and leaving the seat up in the bathroom, I knew it couldn’t last. In the end, Azure Active Directory came between us and even Microsoft therapists couldn't restore our commitment. What we had was lost. We both grew up and learned a lot during the process, but eventually decided we were better off without each other. I'll summarize the issues and what eventually influenced the decision to end the tumultuous relationship. Maybe it will help mitigate your own heartbreak.
