A Newsletter for Your Spiritual Nature
Communicating people's worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves.
Our spiritual nature is to hope and dream and visualize and to connect to our purpose in life. It’s the trigger that motivates us to encounter, discover, create, and synthesize meaning, purpose and values in our lives and to seek a greater good. It enables us to access unconscious aspects of the self and to embed these higher meanings, values, and purposes in living a richer and more creative life. It makes us whole, and gives us our integrity. It helps us ask fundamental questions and reframe our answers. It transforms us.

"I am a place where God's love turns up in this world." Who do you say that you are?
— M. Basil Pennington

Love - LOVE FLOWS THROUGH ME TO BLESS OTHERS.

Throughout his ministry, Jesus often spoke about love. I am inspired by Jesus’ words but perhaps even more by his actions as I reflect on his washing his disciples’ feet on Maundy Thursday.

Through this act of humility and service, Jesus set an example for the disciples to follow to continue his ministry. He then said to the disciples, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another … By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35).

Jesus spoke of his love for his disciples as he called upon them to abide in his love. Today I make a new commitment to follow Jesus’ commandment as I welcome all opportunities to serve and to love.

As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love.—John 15:9

In Tibet, practitioners would sometimes be instructed to go into a cave or canyon and alternately yell compliments and insults at themselves, listening to the echoed sounds and watching the mind's reactions to the praise and criticism.

To Practice This Thought:
Make a recording of your own personal barrage of praise and insults. Play it back to yourself and note how you respond.

We Unburden Ourselves

After years of being shackled to scarcity, victimhood, poverty, suspicion, and inferiority, it might feel good to project onto a scapegoat the burden of hundreds of years of pain. In liminal space—the space of sitting with our truths; the place of mystery, the unknown; the place where we let go of our injured expectations to be seen, to be known, to be welcomed—we acknowledge our feelings giving them space to roll through us. Instead of projecting outward we sit with them, breathe through them, we cry the tears our ancestors, we feel the fatigue. On the threshold between what was and what will be, we unburden ourselves and there the alchemy happens. I allow myself to be honest about humanity’s failings and the abuse of power, seeing the ways in which I too could become like that which I oppose. I acknowledge the monster side of my humanity: lament it, forgive it, and let it go, realizing that it may cycle around again. I realize we all are already one.
